Mahakam river is one of the famous rivers in Kalimantan Island or better known as a Borneo Island.

To do the trip here, would be a great opportunity of your life. Why is it so recommended ? Because one can witness a lot of activities of the local people which is quite different from the life in the big city.

Some parts of Mahakam still follows the traditional way. They use this river for most of their life activities such as taking bath, washing clothes and dishes; and the most important thing is their daily livelihood is dependent on this river. Most of the people here work as local fisherman or hire their boats to the tourists or local people.

It is not only the local people that we see, this trip can be combined as a Mahakam Backpacker in Mahakam river to visit the wooden village, Dayak village and their famous long houses and a beautiful lake. You will also have an opportunity to see Irrawaddy, better known as “pesut”.

We also take a canoe for finding wild animals like hornbill, proboscis monkey, snake etc. Public transportation or hire a car to travel around is easily available. Hungry ? Try local cuisine at local restaurant and stay at a local guest house.
