6 Hours Nature tour itinerary for Cape Town: Face The Rocky Terrain Of Table Mountai
Hiking through Table Mountain is the best way to experience the mountain while learning more about the incredibly diverse fauna and flora. The India Venster Route can be tricky and is recommend for the relatively fit individuals who aren't too worried about heights and a little bit of climbing.
Table Mountain/ India Venster route
Meet at the lower Cable Car, Table Mountain.
Begin the hike up the mountain. The route up will take approximately 3 hours. We initially walk up towards the contour path. This is a great warm-up and you'll certainly get a feel of the climb.
We then head path the signboard for the India Venster Route which recommends you to take an experienced guide with you as it is a route that requires experience.
We then start climbing up a few rocks but nothing too extreme. This continues up the mountain with some flatter spots in between. About 2/3 of the way up the mountain is the tricky part. It requires a bit of rock climbing with the support of some rungs and chains that have been attached to the rock for assistance. This may seem intimidating at first but I'll guide you through it. Although we will stop regularly for breaks, after this climb we'll take a slightly longer break and let the adrenaline settle and take in the view. By this stage, we will be positioned directly below the Cable Car.
We then walk along a path that hugs the side of the Mountain and produces some spectacular views of Camp's Bay below. This path ultimately ends at the top of the mountain. During the climb to the top, we'll take in the spectacular views of the City of Cape Town and Table Bay. I'll also inform you of the great variety of fauna and flora that thrives on the Mountain.
