Travel along "The Cape of Storms" in an open safari vehicle, as was known in the olden days when stormy seas destroyed many ships on the rocky coastline. One of the most beautiful nature routes in Southern Africa, the Cape Peninsula boasts of variety of fauna and flora. See Cape fur seals and make stops at Leopard Rock, Buffels Bay and Hout Bay.

DAY 01

  • Arrive at Mariner Wharf Hout Bay at 09:20 hours.

  • Drive along the very scenic seaboard of the Cape Peninsula, passing some of the most famous beaches in South Africa. The Twelve Apostles can also be viewed on this route. We will stop at scenic points to allow you to take your favourite photos.

  • At Hout Bay, depart on an excursion to Duiker Island by boat to view the Cape Fur Seals. There are 35 species of seals in the world. Duiker Island is a Cape Fur Seal and bird sanctuary, home to thousands of seals and many birds such as the Cape Cormorant, the Bank Cormorants, Black Back Gulls, Kelp Gulls and Hartlaub Gulls.

  • From Hout Bay,  pass by the Leopard Rock, the bronze Leopard Statue at the foot of the famous and scenic Chapmans Peak Pass. The sculpture is a memorial to the many wild animals that once roamed the mountains of the peninsula.

  • At Buffels Bay, enjoy a packed lunch with wine, fruit juices and coffee. Buffels Bay, or Buffalo Bay, is said to have earned it's name from a ship that was wrecked during the 1700's. Legend has it that a ship transporting buffalo apparently hit the rocky shoreline and broke apart, freeing the animals which swam across the bay to freedom.

  • Drive past an Ostrich Farm on our way to the Boulders Penguin Colony in Simon’s Town with your South African tour guide. There will be ample stops on the way to take photos of the scenic area and coastline.

  • From Simon’s Town, drive past scenic coastal towns of Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay and surfers paradise at Muizenberg.

  • On your way back, drive through the Sun Valley area, joining our original route at Noordhoek. The sun will now be in our favour to take great photos back to Hout Bay and Cape Town along the Western Seaboard of the Cape Peninsula. The sides of the OSV can be closed if the weather turns bad. This is an excellent way to see the Peninsula and to take pictures whenever you want.

  • The Cape of Storms, the original name accorded to the present Cape of Good Hope, was not given lightly to one of the most notoriously dangerous coastlines in the world.
