Biking Adventures

Cape Town-South Africa

Cape Town is a city where everyone wants to be. From here, drive to Chapman's peak, considered one the most scenic drives to do in the world; take the Garden Route, one of the top ten coastal routes in the world; or follow some of the best gravel roads in the world with game to view on the route to lead you to the most Southern Tip of Africa. A must ride for anyone with a guide whose passion is to ride his adventure bike. 

DAY 01

Cape Town

  • Cape Town and Table Mountain

    Arrival in Cape Town and collection from the airport and transfer to the hotel.

  • Tour Briefing and bike collection. If time permits, depending on the flight time to Cape Town, we may visit Table Mountain. 

  • Enjoy a welcome evening meal on the Waterfront in Cape Town.

DAY 02

Barrydale - Karoo Introduction

  • Barrydale

    Departing Cape Town, travel North, we pass by the picturesque Winelands areas of the Cape. 

  • We travel through the quaint town of Franschhoek. 

  • Over the Franschhoek pass, used by the Elephants in the past to traverse the mountain for grazing. 

  • Onto Montagu via Villiersdorp. 

  • In Montagu, we will stop for lunch. 

  • After lunch proceeding to Barrydale for our first stop for the night in the little Karoo. 

  • Supper together in Barrydale.

DAY 03

Ostrich Paradise

  • Oudtshoorn Accomomation

    Leaving Barrydale we travel North with a quick visit to Ronnies. 

  • Through Ladismith well known for its cheese then onto Carlizdorp the Port capital of South Africa, from there to Oudtshoorn, South Africa’s ostrich farming capital. 

  • We will arrive for lunch and I highly recommend a visit to an ostrich farm (optional and on your own account).

  • After a tour of the Ostrich farm, we make our way to our accommodation for check-in.

  • Meal together that night at our accommodation.

DAY 04

Prince Albert - The Prince of the Karoo

Prince Albert Town, Great Karoo

  • After breakfast, we depart for the Cango Wildlife Park. 

  • After a visit to the park, we make our way to Prince Albert via the Swartberg Pass (1,568m) with some gravel roads as part of our route. Prince Albert has beautifully preserved Cape Dutch buildings, Karoo lifestyle and Victorian buildings, many of which are National Monuments. 

  • Traditional South African braai (barbeque) this night. Stargazing in the Greater Karoo. Prince Albert is just south of Sutherland which is considered a prime star-gazing destination.

DAY 05

Karoo to Coast - Wilderness

  • Wilderness, Garden Route

    Travel South through Meiringspoort pass. The Swartberg is amongst the best exposed fold mountain chains in the world, and the pass slices through magnificently scenic geological formations. 

  • Past De Rust and through the Outeniqua pass dropping down to the Indian Ocean and to the lively beachside town of Wilderness, home to wide beaches and trails. The Map of Africa, a hilltop lookout point, has views of the Indian Ocean, the Outeniqua Mountains and the Kaaimans River. 

  • Nearby Wilderness Natural Park, part of the sprawling Garden Route National Park, is a habitat for wildlife including leopards, monkeys and eagles. 

  • We spend the night in the Wilderness.

  • Supper is for each person own account and arrangement.

DAY 06

Rest day in Wilderness and Surrounds

  • Bungy Jump Bloukrans

    Enjoy the beach or the estuary, perfect for hiking or water sports.

  • Do your own ride out or go Bungy Jump at the highest bungee in the world (222m). 

  • Spend the day in Knysna if you prefer with many options for activities on the Knysna lagoon.

DAY 07

Cape Agulhas

  • Soutern Tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas

    Breakfast first, travelling west and entering Mossel Bay, ancient, stone age fish traps and cutting-edge fuel from gas technology; Khoy-San herders and European traders – the history of Mossel Bay is a microcosm of the history of South Africa herself. 

  • Leaving the Portuguese landings of Mossel Bay we travel west to Riversdale, Heidelberg and onto Swellendam. 

  • Declared a magisterial district, the third oldest in South Africa, a historical town in the Cape. Light lunch in Swellendam. Travelling a short while west we turn south to the most southern tip of the African continent. Historically, the cape has been known to sailors as a major hazard on the traditional clipper route. It is sometimes regarded as one of the great capes. It was most commonly known in English as Cape L'Agulhas until the 20th century. The town of L'Agulhas is located near to the cape. The dividing line between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans according to the International  Hydrographic Organization.

  • Spending the night at the tip of Africa. Supper at our guest house.

DAY 08

Trip to mother city

  • Clarens Drive

    Leaving Agulhas we go towards west, travelling through Elim. Established in 1824 by German missionaries as a Moravian mission station. 

  • When selecting the location, the missionaries placed a high priority on the proximity of water and on terrain that was suitable for planting vines. 

  • A quick visit after Elim is Gansbaai, known for its dense population of great white sharks and as a whale-watching location.

  • Hermanus is our next stop. Lunch in Hermanus in a cave at the water's edge. 

  •  During whale season this is especially rewarding. Hermanus is famous for Southern Right whale watching during the southern winter months. 

  •  Leaving Hermanus after lunch, we ride to Cape Town via the famous Clarens Drive along the False Bay coast. 

  •  Back to Cape Town and bike rental return.

  1. Motorbike Hire BMW 800GS minimum (option to upgrade to 1200GS LC).

  2. All accommodation.

  3. Breakfasts are all included.

  4. 2 x Dinners ( 1 x South African braai, 1 x 4 course meal).

  • We drive on the left side of the road in South Africa

  • Winter months can be cold even in Africa! - Good riding conditions though. Dry cold nights and mornings.

  • This itinerary can be changed and extended to include the Addo National Park.

  • Pillion pricing not included.

  • The trip can be tailored to do a variation on the amount of dirt and tar, 50-50 or 70-30 or 30/70 depending on rider skill and the group size.

  • The driver's licence needs to be on the rider at all time when on the road in South Africa.
