South Africa has a large tumultuous history and is one that people should learn about and understand if visiting. With stops at the Cradle of Humankind, Bourke's Luck Potholes, Kruger NP, Blyde River's canyon, Sterkfontein Caves, you will be mesmerised. 

DAY 01

Soweto Township Tour

  • Upon arrival, you will be collected from the airport and check into your hotel to freshen up. 

  • Then, depart to the largest and most vibrant township: Soweto. Its home to more than 1.2-million South Africans and some of the most significant historical events in South Africa took place here. 

  • The first stop will be at Regina Mundi Church, which was one of the gathering points of the ANC leadership during the apartheid time.

  • Continue to Chris Isaac High school, where the 1976 student march started. 

  • Next, continue with the route to where Hector Pieterson was shot and then visit the Hector Pieterson memorial museum. 

  • Stop for a traditional lunch at Sakomisie restaurant followed by a drive down Vilakazi Street, the only street in the world in which two Nobel Prize winners have lived: Mandela’s house as well as Desmond Tutu’s house. 

  • Stop at Freedom Square, where the freedom charter was signed. 

  • Return to accommodation after a fun filled historical day.

DAY 02

Cradle of Mankind to Polokwane

  • Be collected from your accommodation and make your way to The Cradle of Humankind. It is about 47,000 hectares in size and is located just 50 kilometres from Johannesburg. It is one of 8 places in South Africa listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1999. You’ll find a complex of limestone caves, including the Sterkfontein Caves, where the 2.3-million-year-old fossil Australopithecus Africanus (nicknamed Mrs Ples) was unearthed in 1947. In fact, more than a third of all hominid fossils ever found have come from this area.

  • At the Maropeng Visitor Center, you’ll take in the world-class exhibition, opened in 2005, that focuses on the development of humans and hominins over the last few million years.

  • At the entrance, you’ll see a massive burial mound called the Tumulus, which is also your gateway to learning the secrets of human ancestry.

  • At the Sterkfontein Caves, you’ll see evidence of the discovery of many hominid and other animal fossils, dating back more than 4 million years, to the birth of humanity.

  • After completing your visit, you will continue your trip to Polokwane, the capital of the Limpopo Province.

  • Here you will check into your accommodation and enjoy dinner at your hotel.

DAY 03

POLOKWANE TO MAPUNGUBWE

  • Depart Polokwane for Mapungubwe on the N1 to Makhado and then left towards Vivo and then right to Alldays, the beautiful Blouberg mountains will be visible in the distance the closer you get.

  • Arrive at Mapungubwe once known as “The jewel in the crown of Limpopo’s cultural tours in the ancient kingdom”, once the capital of a country as large as Swaziland, surrounded by 200 towns. This was a place so feared that centuries later, those who knew of it would not even mention its name.

  • Once in the reserve, your first stop will be at the treetop Boardwalk where you will enjoy a photo opportunity and a stretch of the legs.

  • Then a stop at the Museum and Interpretive Centre which was constructed with the intention of merging the natural location with the park's cultural heritage, by using modern environmentally sensitive techniques.

  • Continue further through the park toward the Mapungubwe heritage walk which is the only way up the hill to where the infamous Gold Rhino was found. You will then enjoy a little more of the surroundings as you make your way to the Confluence Viewpoint and enjoy sundowners on the 360 degree view decks which mark the point where three countries meet.

  • Return to the overnight camp where Guests can relax and have some quiet time before getting together for a traditional South African Braai and wine under the stars.

DAY 04

MAPUNGUBWE - PUNDA MARIA

  • early departure after breakfast and make your way to thohoyandou, meaning ‘head of the elephant’ in tshivenda, which lies south of venda on the main road between louis trichardt and the kruger national park.

  • stop at a number of local attractions that easily roll off the tongues of locals and captivate visitors, as does the charm of the various activities.the royal dzata ruins of the vha-venda kings date back to 1400 ad, tshimbubfe is an archaeological site that boasts iron furnaces dating back to 1250 ad, and the thathe vondo forest is a glorious forest within which lies the thathe vondo tea estates, the sacred forest, mahovhohvho falls, the makumbani dam and lake fundudzi.levubu tree park, set in the gardens of the dutch reformed church in levubu near thohoyandou, is probably all you’ll manage before making your way to the pafuri gate.

  • once in the kruger park, you will head towards the luvuvhu bridge where you will have the opportunity to alight the vehicle and appreciate the [sensitive content]ing of the abundant birdlife.

  • a further stop will be made at crooks corner, this is where zimbabwe meets mozambique at the most northeasterly corner of the limpopo province.

  • the final stretch will be to punda maria where you will spend the night at the rest camp.

  • the evening meal will be enjoyed at shakama plum tree restaurant before retiring for the evening.

DAY 05

PUNDA MARIA – MOPANI

  • After breakfast at the camp restaurant, depart for a leisurely drive thru the Park with plenty of photo opportunities and hopefully a sighting of the big 5.

  • A stop at various watering holes and hides is a must before having a lunch break at Shingwedzi and then continue along this scenic route to Mopani Rest Camp. It was named after the mopane veld that surrounds the camp nestled amongst the Mopani tree-covered koppies. A signature feature is the huge Gnarled old baobab tree in the heart of the camp. The vegetation inside the camp is left as found in the wild, adding to the unique atmosphere of the camp.

  • Have a chance to relax from the day’s activities before departing on an evening game drive.

  • On return, dinner will be a delicious meal at the restaurant overlooking the Pioneer Dam to round off an idyllic day!

DAY 06

MOPANI REST CAMP – BLYDE RIVER

  • Rise up for an early breakfast and departure through the park towards the Phalaborwa gate.

  • The first stop will be at the Phalaborwa Open Cast mine the “Big Hole”, one of the largest copper mines in the world and Africa’s widest manmade hole.It’s almost 2 km wide and visible from space! There is an incredible lookout point located [sensitive content]addition to viewing the Big Hole, the viewpoint offers awesome views of Limpopo’s stunning landscape and the Kruger National Park.

  • Then proceed to Amarula Lapa; here you can relax, stretch your legs and of course, enjoy a glass of Amarula Cream on ice and stock up with a few bottles before journeying on.

  • The tour will continue to Blyde River, with a further stop at Jessica the world-famous hippo.Jessica ‘lives’ in the river of Hoedspruit and she is approachable for humans.She weighs about 1.2 tons and is without a doubt the world’s most famous hippo.The interactive tour is about 2 hours long and will leave you feeling joy in your heart.

  • Book in at Swadini which is set at the secluded foot of the Blyde River Canyon on the banks of the Blyde River, amidst a symphony of majestic Drakensberg mountain peaks and lush bush teeming with wildlife and sounds that call to indulge in pure African-style magic, African-style.

  • A late afternoon sunset cruise is planned for you on the Blyde River Dam.

  • Then, dinner will be a delicious meal at the restaurant to round off an idyllic day!

DAY 07

BLYDE RIVER - PANORAMIC ROUTE

  • After breakfast at Swadini restaurant, depart for Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre Situated in the shadow of the majestic “Mariepskop” which forms part of the mighty Drakensberg mountains; this unique Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is home to many of South Africa’s abandoned, injured and poisoned wildlife.

  • After the tour, you will begin your Panorama Route adventure.

  • The first stop will be the Blyde River Canyon. The Blyde River Canyon Reserve extends along the Blyde River Canyon's winding path, here you will get a good view of the famous 3 rondavels. At every turn offers more and more impressive views over sheer edges dropping 800m into the riverbed.

  • The second stop is at Bourke's Luck Potholes, for they are without a doubt incredible. Essentially they're the result of decades of swirling eddies of water where the Treur River meets the Blyde River, the tumult of which has caused extensive water erosion over time. The result is a series of cylindrical rock sculptures that look as though they would be more comfortable on the moon.

  • Next stop God's Window with magnificent views, canyons, rock formations and waterfalls, is truly an area of breathtaking scenic splendour.

  • A light lunch can be had along the route.

  • Once you have completed the Panoramic route, you will make your way to Johannesburg, where you will overnight.

  • Meet at the hotel's bar for pre-dinner drinks followed by supper before retiring to bed for the evening.

DAY 08

Pretoria – Cullinan

  • This morning you spend a good portion of the day touring Pretoria, the capital of South Africa.

  • Start with a visit to some of Pretoria’s historical sites such as the Union Building, Voortrekker Monument, the City Hall, Kruger House and Church Square.

  • After lunch, you will be taken to the world-famous Cullinan Diamond Mine; since the discovery of diamond pipes in the world, it was established that the Cullinan Diamond Pipe is the oldest diamond pipe in the world. In 1905 only a mere 9 meters from the surface, the world’s biggest rough diamond the Cullinan at 3106ct was found.

  • After a full day of activities and diamond shopping, you will return to your hotel and enjoy a final banquet with entertainment in celebration of your South African adventure.

DAY 09

Shopping Day

  • After breakfast & check out, you will make your way to Mall of Africa in Midrand, which is the largest single-phase shopping mall built in Africa.

  • Browse shops and have lunch at one of the many restaurants on offer. Depart the mall at guest’s leisure.

  • Depart directly from shopping to O.R Tambo for your return flight home.
