Explore the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro from Marangu Gate to Horombo Hut on this 3-day trip. Enjoy an exhilarating trekking experience as you ascend towards Mandara Hut and Horombo Hut. Take a short walk to the Maundi Crater and have a great time camping at the Horombo Hut, capturing breathtaking views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.

  • Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,800m/5,905ft) to Mandara Hut (2,743m/9,000ft) expand_more
    • Meet the tour guide at 8 am at your hotel in Moshi and depart for Marangu Gate. The drive from Moshi to Marangu takes an hour.
    • Arrive at Marangu Gate, complete registration and begin the Kilimanjaro hike.
    • Walk along a narrow trail through the rainforest of Kilimanjaro up to Mandara Hut and meet mountain climbers descending from the top.
    • Stop for a quick lunch at Mandara Hut and take a short walk to the Maundi Crater.

    Dinner and overnight stay at Mandara Hut.

  • Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut expand_more
    • Embark on the first part of the walk, which is a steep ascent through the forest, but later the path opens out into grassy moorland, and, in clear weather, there are good views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
    • Climb through the moorland zone to reach Horombo Hut (3,720m). The site is close to the glaciated dome of Kibo, and there is a sense of being above the clouds.
  • Day 3: Horombo Hut to Moshi expand_more
    • Have breakfast and drive back to Moshi from Marangu gate.
