Travel through the highlights of Central and Southern Cappadocia on this 2-day tour and explore the ruins of ancient churches at the unique open-air museum in Goreme. Get a taste of local traditions and customs at Avanos and wander through the haunting ruins of Kaymakli Underground City. Then, inspect the archaeological sites of Sobesos and Mustafapasa and see Urgup’s family fairy chimneys and Monk’s Valley.

  • Day 1 - Central Cappadocia expand_more
    • Reach Esentepe, which offers an impressive panoramic view overlooking Goreme. Here, your Cappadocia guide will give you information on the history of Cappadocia and its unique rock formations. 
    • Next, reach the Goreme Open Air Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It contains the rock-cut churches plastered with depictions of the Old and New Testaments, dating back to the 10th century. 
    • Have lunch at a nice restaurant in Gerome. 
    • Then, make several photo-stops along the way, including Urgup’s family fairy chimneys, Devrent’s animal-shaped rock formations and Monk’s Valley (Paşhabag) with the famous mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys as well as St. Simeon’s monk cell carved into the rock.
    • Concludes the day's tour in Avanos, a picturesque town along a river. Here, you see a kick-wheel demonstration by a local potter and get the opportunity to experience ancient traditions and customs.
    • Return to your hotel around 4-5 pm.

  • Day 2 - Southern Part of Cappadocıa expand_more
    • Explore the Kaymakli Underground City, the biggest underground city in Cappadocia with 8 levels, including stables, temples and wineries.
    • Drive to Sahinefendi, the Sobesos Excavation site. Here, you can inspect ancient Roman baths, tombs, basilica and mosaics.
    • Then, head to Keslik Monastery, which has unique Cappadocian frescoes. These exceptional wall paintings are from the iconoclastic period (726-843 AD).
    • Drive to the Greek town of Mustafapasa. Famous for its beautiful architecture, Mustafapasa was one of the largest Greek towns in Cappadocia until the 1924 population exchange between Turkey and Greece. Here you get to see the relics of Greek mansions, churches and the Medrese seminary.
    • Have lunch at a local restaurant and then return to your hotel around 4-5 pm.
