  • Piazza della Cisterna

The cistern square dating back to 1200 is exactly in the center of the city and at the crossroads between the two main routes of the upper medieval village. If the square of the Cathedral ambivalent both as a religious and political center (there are both the Collegiate and the two palaces of the Podestà), the Piazza della Cisterna was intended for the market and a stage for parties and tournaments.

  • Volterra, Tuscany
