10 Days Architecture tour itinerary for tunisia: Explore Tunisia, The Star Wars Way

Pickup from Tunis-Carthage International Airport.

Transfer to hotel and check in.

The day centres around Tunis's archaeological heritage, and its wealthy architecture. This morning includes the visit of the Bardo,Tunisia's National Museum with its archaeological collections. The museum displays the world's largest collection of Roman mosaics and other priceless treasures from various parts territories throughout Tunisia.

From the Bardo we move to the Medina old Arabic city for a walk around the most interesting monuments.

After lunch we drive to Carthage where you will explore the ruins of the Roman baths of Antonine,the Roman villas, and Byrsa Hill.

This morning you explore Kairouan, Tunisia's holy city and said to be the site of the first mosque in Africa. During medieval times, Kairouan rose to become an important center for trade and crafts. The region still provides the base for much of Tunisia's craft industry, particularly rugs and textiles. 

After lunch we drive to Tozeur.

 Overnight in Tozeur.

After breakfast, our tour will set out for the town of Metlaoui, where we will board the Red Lizard train. The Red Lizard inches through narrow passageways and tunnels dug into the canyon walls and deep gorges.

On our train ride, we will discover the Selja Gorge and view the incredible landscape. 

Then we depart towards southwest to reach the mountain oasis of Mides, Chebika, and Tamerza. Here you will enjoy a walking tour through the palm trees and the natural water springs. 

From Chebika we head to Tozeur. 

Dinner and overnight in Tozeur. 

From Tozeur, we head to Sidi Bouhlel where many shots, from many different scenes in Star Wars: A New Hope were filmed, against a still very recognizable rocky background. 

Next, we depart for further exploration of the south crossing the impressive salt lake. 

We stop in Douz, a small town that appears to be plopped down amidst the dunes. The village is known as the gateway to the Sahara.

After lunch, we drive to Ksar Ghilane, a small oasis in southern Tunisia located on the edge of the Grand Erg Oriental. This is the Sahara of your dreams where extraordinarily fine, orange sand dunes stretch on for miles and miles overnight in tent ksar Ghilane.

After breakfast, we head to Tatooine area, famous for its Ksars; fortified Beber villages. 

Today you will really enjoy exploring Ksar Haddada (Mos Espa slave quarters), Guermessa; a gorgeous Berber hilltop village and the Ksar Ouled Soltane; a popular fortified granary famed to be the location of Slave Quarters.

Overnight in Tatouine.

From Tatouine, we head to Medenine, the location filming of Anakin Skywalker's Home. The scene was shot in the Berber granary. 

Next, we drive to Jerba, the Island of dreams and the location of Ben Kenobi's Hermitage (the home of Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Toshi Station (- a power station sited next to the fictional town of Anchorhead).

In the late afternoon, we depart Jerba for Matmata where you will explore Lars Homestead Interior (- a traditional Berber troglodyte underground building, now serving as the Hotel Sidi Driss).

Overnight in Matamata.

Today, after visiting Matmata, we depart to El Jem where you will explore the impressive Roman amphitheater dating back to the 3rd century AD. 

Overnight in Kairouan.

Before Going to the hotel we will have a walk in the charming village of Sidi Bou Said with spectacular views over the bay and the mountains beyond.
