2 Days Culture tour itinerary for tunisia: Journey To The Gateway Of Sahara

6:00 AM: Commence your Sahara desert tour with your departure to Matmata, a small Berber speaking town.

11:00 AM: Arrive in Matmata and visit traditional underground 'troglodyte' structures, which are home to local Berber residents. They live in such structures to escape the heat.

1:00 PM: Break for lunch 

2:00 PM: Visit Ksar Ghilane, the place of endless sand dunes, which is sometimes referred to as the Door to Sahara.

4:00 PM: Then proceed to the shimmering mirage, Ksar Ghilane oasis. You will begin your exploration of the surrounding sand dunes on a camel and quad.

6:00 PM: Depart for Zmela to spend a night there. Learn how to prepare bread.

7:00 PM: Head to your camp in Zmela, where you can retire to prepare for your next day journey.

8:00 AM: Begin your journey to located on the coast of a gulf.

• Bir Barrouta, which is one of the oldest wells of Kairouan. Legend has it that it's connected to the holy well of Mecca, Bir Zemzem.

• Mosque of Uqba, one of the oldest places to worship in the Islamic world.

• Aghlabite hydraulic system, which is double reservoirs constructed by a prince of the Aghlabid dynasty in 9th-century. It provided water to the town for more than a millennium.

5:00 PM: Depart for Tunis.
