Description

Join me on this live-streamed Online Experience to explore Arezzo, one of the most astounding ancient towns in the heart of Italy.
We will start our virtual tour from the Saint Mary Pieve, a Romanesque masterpiece that manages to commune with visitors through its marvellous sculptures and other beautiful adornments. Next our way will be the Piazza Grande or Main Square, which some may remember as the spectacular setting of “The Life is Beautiful”, Benigni’s Oscar-winning motion picture. As we walk about here, I will introduce you to a variety of typical local fare prepared by local chefs. We will then savour a lovely view of the Vasari’s “Logge”, the widest building in the square, conceptualised by the very architect who designed the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
Moving uphill from the square, we will stopp by the Podesta Palace. Thanks to its numerous coat of arms, this palace boasts of many intriguing inside stories from the 14th century onwards, guided by the very lives of the protagonists. I will make you privy to many of these, from those about the Florentine Republic to the ones that talk about the Medici family.

Climbing atop the hill, we will enjoy an unmatchable view of the very heart of the Tuscan landscape, between the Medici Fortress and the main Cathedral - the latter is a gothic building that shapes the whole skyline of the town. Inside the cathedral, a plethora of masterworks coming from a wide range of historical periods awaits us: prepare to lose yourself inside the colours of Marcillat’s glasses, the white marbles of the main altar, and the Magdalene - the very masterwork frescoed by Piero della Francesca.

I look forward to showing you these and many other wonders in Arezzo.

Meet your Host
Sandro Farinelli

I have majored in Art History, specializing in goldsmithery and masterpieces restoration.  A professional guide since 2011, I have travelled throughout Italy following the great artists' trials. This led me to guide thousands of people from all over the world, from many various walks of life, inside the most spectacular Museums, collections, and cultural sites of our country.

My main purpose has always been, since the beginning, to bring back into people's minds the Reinassance artists' greatness, treating their lives paths as a deep inspiration for our "modern" times. In this way, they became a role model in my life and action. This led me to write my first book, "Piero della Francesca: the Secret unveiled", in which I talk about how powerful the Neoplatonic view of life is and how much of our lives are bound together by the action of the Old Masters and their marriage with Platonic philosophy. The book will soon be translated into English.
