Highlights
  • Explore an Australian rainforest using night-vision goggles
  • Spot a variety of wildlife like possum, pademelon, bandicoot, and more
Description

Joining this tour, you will explore an Australian rainforest at night, searching for nocturnal wildlife. However, instead of wielding a torch, you will wear special night vision goggles. This is military-grade technology that lets you see animals as they go about their business. Because we don’t use bright lights we are less intrusive and that means we can be more connected to what is going on all around us. Nights with less moonlight are best for using night vision. On a typical night, we see five species. Our regular sightings include possum, pademelon, bandicoot, tawny frogmouth, leaf-tailed gecko, fucsipes, melomys, microbats, and frogs. After the tour, enjoy a hot chocolate gazing up at the starry night.

Wendy Bithell

Wendy has been an eco-tour guide in the Byron Bay area for the past 13 years. Her business offers walks, wildlife tours, hinterland, and cultural tours. She shares her knowledge of the natural and human history of the area with a unique blend of humour and passion for the environment. She is the only land-based guide in this region with Advanced Ecotourism certification and she has won gold for eco-tourism in last year’s regional tourism awards. Wendy knows where to go to get the best wildlife experience, avoid the crowds (or find them if that’s what you are after) and she can tell you where to buy the best sushi in the shire. She loves trivia, comedy, and good food. When she is not guiding, you will find her kayaking, hiking, planting trees, or supporting local live entertainment and community events.
