It is possible to see platypus at any time of the day, but our best chance is just after dawn. Your guide will lead you at a gentle pace, showing you what to look for and sharing insights about this much-loved and quirky Australian animal.

Description

The tour will begin after we pick you up from your accommodation in Byron Bay and drive to the special platypus area. After arriving, we will begin an easy 90-minute walk along the creek looking for platypus. The guide will lead you at a gentle pace and give you insights about this much-loved and quirky animal. You can expect to see around one or two platypi, birds, and even koalas. Later, we will go for a picnic by the creek before returning to Byron Bay.

She shares her knowledge of the natural and human history of the area with a unique blend of humour and passion for the environment. She is the only land-based guide in this region with Advanced Ecotourism certification and she has won gold for eco-tourism in last year’s regional tourism awards. Wendy knows where to go to get the best wildlife experience, avoid the crowds (or find them if that’s what you are after) and she can tell you where to buy the best sushi in the shire. She loves trivia, comedy, and good food. When she is not guiding, you will find her kayaking, hiking, planting trees, or supporting local live entertainment and community events.
