Description
Heidelberg was one of the rare towns in Germany that was not destroyed during the second world war. Join us on a walking online tour of Heidelberg's Old Town as your guide regales you with stories of its long and rich history.
We will start at the main Market square, located in the very centre of the Old town. Here, we will see the Town Hall and the most important church of Heidelberg, the Church of the Holy Spirit, built-in the 14th century. Your guide will point out the longest street in the whole of Europe and the famous Hercules Fountain, telling you interesting stories about this great statue. We then proceed to the Corn Market to see the famous Madonna statue. We will visit the three main squares of Heidelberg, passing by cheerful bakeries and cafes, and the oldest house in town built-in 1592 along the way. You will also see the Old Castle from outside, comparing its present look with some pictures from its glorious past days.
Then pay a visit to the Heidelberg University, which was founded in 1386 and is the oldest university in Germany. Heidelberg is a lively place because of the students that compose a quarter of its population.
We will end our experience at the iconic Old Bridge, from where you will have access to panoramic views of the Old Castle and surrounding forests.
