Description
The famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) was one of the most renowned figures of 17th century Amsterdam and he lived, worked and left traces at various locations in the city of canals. He was known as a painter of light and shade and as an artist who favoured an uncompromising realism that would lead some critics to claim that he preferred ugliness to beauty. This unique Online Experience, live-streamed from the city of Amsterdam, will allow you to walk in the footsteps of the great artist and trace his journey through life and art.
On our virtual tour, we will visit the neighbourhood where Rembrandt lived, which is also the oldest neighbourhood of Amsterdam and one of its prettiest. We will see the Waag on Nieuwmarkt, where he painted his breakthrough piece "The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp" and where the painting "The Night Watch" was hung for a long time before finding its place at the Rijksmuseum. As we walk around, I will also regale you with stories about the paintings and the people in them. Finally, we will be at the Rembrandthuis, the house where he lived for 19 years.
