Stroll through the central market of this city in Senegal located on the Saloum River. Experience the local culture by visiting a village and spot numerous birds such as vultures, herons, kingfishers, etc. in the mangrove on Saloum River.
DAY 01
Exploration of Kaolack Central Market and Boat riding on the Saloum River
Before arriving at Kaolack, visit a village with your Senegalese tour guide to really immerse into the local culture. For instance, the villagers will teach you how to pound the millet they use in making couscous.
Reach Kaolack and explore the Central Market. Kaolack is a crossroad very close to the Gambia. When visiting the market, you will see the colourful beauty of Africa.
Visit typical shops and workshops like the shoemakers.
The sellers of animals skins such as lions, monkeys, snakes and so on that people use in their amulets.
See the amulets markers, the African fabrics sellers, the fruits and vegetable sellers.
Witness the usage of motorbikes as taxis.
Kaolack is also the capital city of peanuts. That's why at a time of the year, you can see," mountains of peanuts.
Eat lunch at Le Relais Hotel, Kaolack, Senegal.
Upon arrival at Toubacouta in Keur Saloum Hotel, go for a boat ride to explore the area, which is world heritage going through the huge mangrove for birdwatching. There, you can see the giant kingfisher, the pied kingfisher, the osprey, the palm but vulture, the marsh barrier, the Goliath heron, the great white heron, the white-breasted cormorant, and so on.
