Bled – Bohinj – Bovec
Set off for a date with Lake Bled, one of the most beautiful and famous places in Slovenia.
Board a traditional Pletna boat for a ride to Bled Island and her quaint church where visitors can ring the ‘wishing bell.’ Then it’s up 130 meters to 1,000-year-old Bled Castle for breathtaking vistas of the lake and her surroundings, plus a museum, a chapel and a wine cellar where you can steal your own bottle of Slovenia’s best.
Then throw in a beautiful panorama of the Alps and Mt. Triglav, Slovenian highest mountain and its national symbol.
After an informal lunch break, we take a winding drive through villages and woodlands to Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest lake and the jewel of Triglav National Park.
In the afternoon, we hike the Sava Dolinka, one of the two sources of the Sava River.
Then it’s a well-deserved drive up the ‘Road of a Thousand Views’ and over Vršič Pass, Slovenia’s highest at 1600 meters.
Then we descend into the rich wilderness of the Trenta Valley, ending our day in the small town of Bovec, home to 1700 people, 2 Gothic churches and one eminently quaint and walkable town center.
Rafting Bovec’s Waters
Today we really get the adrenalin going with a whitewater rafting trip on the emerald-blue Soča River. With professional guides and phenomenal scenery at every exhilarating turn, we guarantee you’ll have an unforgettable time.
The Trenta Valley is blessed with beauty, chosen as a location for the filming of Disney’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
Enjoy the splendour of this mountainous region on your own, or take advantage of our optional afternoon canyoning trip tour.
Either way, you’ll be in for a perfect day, capped off with an evening enjoying the small-town vibe of this richly historical place.
Bovec – hiking Alpe Adria trail
In the morning, we’ll take a beautiful drive up to our mountain hut, from where we’ll make a short climb to the source spring of the Soča River – a truly magical place in this truly blessed region.
For our hike along the Soča here in Triglav National Park, we suggest stopping off at the visitor’s center for a more detailed look at the wonders of the Trenta Valley.
The highlight of our hike is the Great Soča Gorge, 750 meters long and up to 12 meters deep, yet in some places only two meters wide.
Be sure to have your camera on hand for this most unique and picturesque geological gem – home of the graceful and elusive marble trout.
In the afternoon, we’ll make our way along the curves and contours of Rombon and Kanin Mountains, covering 23 kilometres of gentle, mostly downhill trails by the time we find ourselves back in Bovec.
If you choose not to walk the entire trail we can arrange for our driver to pick you up along the way and take you the rest of the way to Bovec. (Be advised: as this is an on-the-spot pick-up, tailored to your personal needs, there will be a modest fee incurred.)
Back together, we have one more chance to explore the side streets and the café culture of warm, welcoming Bovec.
Tolmin – Škocijan Cave – Istria
Today we drive to the amazing Škocjan Caves, which have been designated by UNESCO as both Cultural and Natural World Heritage treasures. But be warned! The temperature in the caves hovers at a constant 12°C/54°F in drier areas and as low as 0°C/32°F near the flowing river waters – have your jacket or sweater on hand!
Along the 3-kilometre underground path, you’ll a world of stalagmites, stalactites and some incredible karst formations in caverns that culminate in one of the world’s largest known underground chambers and a walk across a footbridge 47 meters above the mystical Reka River.
After a walk back outside past the karst formation gardens, we head to the world-famous Lipica Stud Farm where we’ll break for lunch before embarking on a guided tour where we’ll learn about these famous, elegant and lucky Lipizzaner horses.
Spend a little time in the informative and interactive Lipikun Museum to round out your educational experience.
Our day ends down the road, on the beaches of Poreč along Croatia’s renowned Istria Coast.
Create your own perfect day here in this cosy historic town, situated on its own tiny peninsula, surrounded on three sides by the turquoise waters of the Adriatic.
Get lost among the narrow streets, explore the Old Town and gaze upon the mosaics and frescoes of the 6th Century Euphrasius Basilica before climbing the bell tower for a sweeping view of the beauty of Istria.
For a more active adventure rent a bicycle and head for the Baredine Jama-Grotto for another underground experience – if the olive groves and wineries along the way don’t get you sidetracked!
Check out some local art at the Romanesque House.
Enjoy a complimentary boat ride from the town promenade to the islet of Saint Nikolas.
In the evening head to the Round Tower for a unique (if slightly pricey) place for a bit of drinking and dining.
Wonderfully walkable, Poreč offers plenty in a small, attractive setting.
Boat trip – Rovinj – Lim Chanal – Vrsar
We come together in the morning for a panoramic cruise along the sun-soaked Istrian coast and down to Plava Laguna and Zelena Laguna – the Blue and Green Lagoons, lined with evergreen forest and stretches of rocky, pebbly coastline flanking inviting deservingly-popular beaches.
We continue on to the town of Rovinj for a couple hours of sightseeing in one of the most attractive towns of all Istria.
From there, we ply the Lim Canal and descend on Pirates Cave.
Our final destination for the day is the beautiful town of Vrsar. Old World architecture, numerous islets off the rugged, winding shoreline, mountain biking through unspoiled nature, world-class diving, wines and dining and surprise delights around every corner – Vrsar will leave you both satiated and wanting more.
And on the eighth day, we rest. Relax.
Take some time to catch all those things you might have missed our first time here in Poreč. Or take off on an optional day excursion and visit one of the most enchanting cities in the world – board a boat and glide across the sparkling blue Adriatic, all the way to St. Mark’s Square in Venice!
You’ll have a one-hour professionally guided tour as well as the chance to explore the city on your own.
Cross the world-famous Rialto Bridge.
Go for a romantic gondola ride through the maze of canals, where you’ll see a postcard-perfect view at every turn.
What a fantastic way to round out what we hope will be one of your best travel experiences ever!
Poreč – Ljubljana
After breakfast, you’ll have one last chance to enjoy the beach or grab that perfect souvenir for yourself or a loved one.
As midday approaches, we say goodbye to Poreč and Croatia – but our tour is not over just yet!
We’ve saved our personal favourite place for last – our own beloved, beautiful Ljubljana.
We’ll enjoy a relaxed two-hour guided tour of the best of Slovenia’s capital, followed by a friendly, informal farewell dinner where we’ll be able to share and relive our fondest memories and moments from our nine glorious days together.
