Bucharest – Tulcea
Arrive at the Bucharest International Airport and meet the guide.
Drive to the city of Tulcea- a gateway into the Danube Delta. Please note that you can opt for an additional overnight stay in Bucharest, before your transfer to Tulcea.
Enjoy the magnificent drive to the south on your way to Delta. After crossing the Danube River, enter Dobrogea Plateau, the oldest mountains of Europe (400 million years old). The region has over 600 wind turbines.
Reach Tulcea. If time allows, visit one of the two great museums of this city. The Danube Delta Aquarium offers a great introduction to the Delta ecosystem. Enjoy the fish tanks, with local and exotic species.
For 100 RON, get a full diving suit and instructor, and feed huge Danube sturgeon. or visit the Ethnographic Museum of Tulcea, where you can learn about the local ethnic groups.
Overnight accommodation in Tulcea.
Begin the day with Danube Delta biosphere reserve exploration. It is the youngest land of Europe (The Danube Delta started to form just 10,000 years ago and is still in the process of formation). It is Known as the birdwatchers paradise (home to over 320 species of birds), you can try your hand at fishing, or simply relax while browsing through the narrow channels.
Have a taste of the Danube Delta cuisine. The mid day stop at Mila 35 restaurant will show you the best local flavors.
Return to Tulcea. Stay overnight.
Tulcea – Brasov
Relish a healthy breakfast.
Head towards Prahova Valley.
Ferry across the Danube river before heading north to the beautiful city of Brasov.
Make a stop at Sinaia- the jewel of Carpathian Mountains. This 300 year old city was born around the monastery of Sinaia.
Head to the highlight of this day- Peles Palace. Known as the Versailles of Romania, the royal residence of King Carol I of Romania is considered the most beautiful summer Royal Residence in Europe.
Stay overnight in Brasov.
Brasov – Bran - Sibiu
Start your day with a walking tour of Brasov. Enjoy the cobblestone streets and revisit the time of Arab merchants.
See the St. Catherine’s Gate (the oldest in the city). Make your way in front of the Synagogue, the narrowest street in Europe, and stop at the Black Church. Visit the church, the biggest one of Eastern Europe, with its 4000 pipe organ. It also holds the largest collection of oriental rugs in the country.
Finish the tour at Council Square, with its lively atmosphere.
Depart for Dracula Castle. The castle was built in 1377 as a border point on the trading route between Transylvania and Wallachia. Your guide will offer you full insight into the legend of Vlad Dracula. Drive along the Fagaras Mountains, the highest mountain chain of Romania.
Reach Sibiu, one of the gateways into Transylvania.
Stay overnight in Sibiu, at a centrally located hotel.
Sibiu – Biertan – Sighisoara
Enjoy buffet breakfast at the hotel.
Take a walking tour around Sibiu- an 800-year-old city. One of the most beautiful German fortified cities of Transylvania. See the landmarks of this city. This includes Brukenthal Museum, a museum assembled by Baron Brukenthal, governor of Transylvania at the beginning of the 19th century.
See the Evangelical Cathedral. Visit the Passage of Stairs linking the Upper Town to the Lower town and the 1859 Liar’s Bridge.
Do not miss the original Pharmacy Museum.
Have lunch. Participate in a home hosted lunch at a nearby village. Sibiu's surroundings are famous in the country for the best dairy products in Romania.
After lunch, depart to the heart of Transylvania.
On the way to Sighisoara, stop at Biertan. It was the former Seat of Lutheran Bishops between 1516 and 1867. It is also one of the best preserved medieval fortifications of our country.
Optional dinner at the birthplace of Vlad Dracula (Vlad the Impaler).
If the allows, you can also choose to visit the amazing ancient oak tree reservation.
Stay overnight in Sighisoara.
Sighisoara – Bistrita – Sighetu Marmatiei
Have breakfast in the hotel. Enjoy a walking tour of the upper city, including the Tower With Clock, Scholar's Stairs and the Church.
Return through Saxon cemetery.
Leave for the medieval town of Bistrita. Visit the famous evangelical Cathedral of Bistrita and the nearby merchant building.
Break for lunch.
Arrive in the small town of Sighetu Marmatiei.
Enjoy an overnight stay at one of the local farms. The hosts will offer great home made meals and house made plum brandy. In this splendid region of Maramures (northern Transylvania), due to its relative isolation, the people developed a particularly strong community. It is unique in personality, traditions, culture, fashion, and lifestyle.
Home cooked breakfast at the farm will await you.
Walk around the village, to the nearby whirlpool. This a century old tradition, the entire village comes here to wash their laundry.
Tour the famous Merry Cemetery in Sapinta.
Stay overnight at the local house.
Maramures - Wooden Churches – Bucovina
Head on the Iza Valley.
Stop at the village of Dragomiresti, a 235-year-old original complete household is waiting.
Visit the wooden church of Ieud .
Make a quick stop at the exquisite Barsana Monastery, a great example of Maramures wooden church architecture.
Stop for shopping at the workshop of the local woodcarver in the village of Barsana. The family has been carving gates in the area for centuries.
Leave Maramures, and drive through the scenic Oriental Carpathian mountains. The pass goes up to 1500 meters.
Reach Bucovina. Stay overnight at a hotel.
Bucovina Painted Monasteries
Begin by heading to Voronet Monastery, the most famous out of all, known as the Sistine Chapel of the East. The eastern wall features best preserved Last Judgment fresco.
Do not miss visiting the Tree of Jesse.
Next is Moldovita Monastery.
Continue to the nearby Sucevita Monastery, situated right over a beautiful mountain pass, offering a great view of the Moldavian countryside.
The Ladder of John of Sinai is considered one of the best frescoes of Sucevita Monastery, rarely present in medieval Romanian art. Visit the small museum of this monastery displaying valuable old Bibles in the country. The village of Marginea offers a black pottery workshop using a technique called “oxygen reduction.”
End your day with the Monastery of Humor, the only one without a belfry tower.
Return to the hotel.
Bucovina – Bucharest
Catch breakfast in the hotel.
Get ready for an early morning departure back to the capital city.
Drive through the Vineyards of Vrancea.
Arrive in Bucharest. Be a part of a brief orientation tour of city.
Relax in the free time.
Recommendation: walk around the Revolution Square, close to your hotel, as a good way to relax after a long day.
Bucharest Tour - Snagov - Mogosoaia
Start with a city tour of Bucharest.
View the Palace of the Parliament, the Revolution Square, Cotroceni Quarter, a view of Nicolae Ceausescu‘s private residence and a visit of the Romanian Village Museum.
Depart to see the surroundings of this city. See Snagov Monastery and Mogosoaia Palace. Snagov Monastery is the legendary burial place of Vlad the Impaler, although his grave is empty to this day. The monastery is on an island in a lake, in the middle of one of the biggest forests around Bucharest. The walk there will show you great wildlife and flora. It was first built by Vlad the Impaler during his rule.Today, it still shows the original paintings and fortification tower. Mogosoaia Palace shows how the Wallachian aristocracy lived in the 17th century. This palace is the best example of Romanian architectural style.
Return to the city in the evening.
