Description

Hike the Carpathians passing through the Chirusca pastures, the home of an endemic flower and see the mighty Rock Towers or residual rocks. Continue to Tigaile Saddle, trek through the 7 Ladders” Canyon, and pay a visit to the stunning Bran Castle. Poiana Gutanu. Go through the Moieciu de Sus Village and reach Poiana Gutanu, enjoy the views of Grohotisu Mountain and trek up to the Saua Strunga before descending.

  • Day 1 : Arrive at Bucharest expand_more
    • Arrival at Henri Coanda International Airport in Bucharest. Meet and greet by your professional English speaking tour guide. 

    • Transfer to Cheia mountain resort, at the foot of Ciucas Mountains. Accommodation at Cheia Hotel 3* situated at 870 metres (2610 ft) is the starting point towards Ciucas Peak. After a welcome dinner, we will get ready for the next day.


  • Day 2 : Towards Goliath expand_more
    • Enjoy A la carte breakfast at the hotel. This morning, we begin the trail crossing Chirusca pastures. Not far from the Ciucas chalet, we will meet "The Old Ladies Consultation” a residual rock. On the way to the highest peak – Ciucas 1950 m (5850 ft) - we will see many other residual shapes built in millennia by wind and water.

    • Once there, we reach the peak and enjoy a  wonderful panoramic view.

    • Coming down from the ridge, we will finally see the Goliath and The Pigeon Rocks. Soon, we will reach Tigaile Saddle. From here, come back to the Chalet and back to our hotel at Cheia.

    Level difference 1050 m (3150 ft). Evening at leisure. Accommodation at Cheia Hotel.

  • Day 3 : Gropsoarele Peak expand_more
    • Enjoy A la carte breakfast at the Hotel. Proceed for a hiking day tour of the Ciucas Mountains. Go to Gropsoare – Zaganu Ridge, the "Red” Mountain and back to Cheia Hotel.

    • Not far from Cheia Monastery, we will reach the Tourists Path through a mixed forest. The path continues to Buzaianu Ridge (3144 ft) from where we will start the ascension to Zaganu Peak (5451 ft) and continues to Gropsoarele Peak (5649 ft). The landscape is simply amazing. From here, we descend towards Muntele Rosu and return to Cheia for dinner and leisure after a wonderful hiking day.

  • Day 4 : Seven Steps expand_more
    • After breakfast, leave Cheia for Piatra Mare (The Big Rock) Mountain. Following Sipotelor Valley, we will reach the spectacular "7 Ladders” Canyon. Passing through the Canyon, enjoy breathtaking views. Then, we will come back to the car through Prapastia Ursilor, a steep wall used for mountaineering. Level difference 450 m (1350 ft).

    • On the way to our hotel, we’ll pay a visit to Bran Castle, the attraction of the day. Also known as Dracula Castle was built in 1377 to safeguard the trading route between Transylvania and Wallachia. Spend some time in the souvenir area, and from here, we will reach Moieciu de Sus village for an overnight stay.

  • Day 5 : Hiking Day expand_more
    • Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning begin the 5th day of your private trip with a picturesque hiking day through Moieciu de Sus Village following Bangaleasa Valley. 

    • Passing through a wonderful forest we will reach Poiana Gutanu that offers splendid scenery toward the steep slope of the Grohotisu Mountain. From here we continue our way towards Saua Strunga 1924 m (5772 ft) our destination from where we’ll start our descending to Mistral Resort for overnight.

    Level difference 1120 m (3360 ft).Time at leisure and dinner

  • Day 6 : Limestone Rock expand_more
    • After breakfast, transfer to Zrnesti to visit Piatra Craiului National Park, a "Tiara” of the Carpathians. The day starts with a nice walking through Prapastiile Zarnestilor (Zarnestior Gorges) with dramatic surroundings. The Jurassic Limestones are fascinating, showing us the geological stratification.

    • In about 3 hours of hiking through mixed beech and spruce forest, we reach Curmatura Chalet 1440 m (4320 ft).

    • A brief orientation and we start our descending towards Fantana Lui Botorog, a spring with crystal clear water.

    • Back to Moieciu de Sus.

    Level difference 450 m (1350 ft).

  • Day 7 : Meet the Scree expand_more
    • After breakfast, transfer to Plaiul Foii. Start our day upstream of Barsa Tamasului through the forest.

    • In about 2 hours from the beginning, we reach a place that hosts a shelter and where we can see the NW wall of Piatra Craiului Massif. The trail continues through a rare spruce forest and our first "target” of the day is to be reached after we passed over a few valleys and gully. We are now facing Marele Grohotis (The Big Scree).

    • From here in about 45 minutes we will be in front of a breathtaking point known as Ceardacul Stanciului (Stanciului Porch). The small grotto located at the foot of the Porch is worth to be visited.

    • From here, we will go back to the car passing over Tamasel glade and Curmatura Foii Saddle.

    • Back to Moieciu de Sus for a farewell dinner.

    Level of difference 800 m (2400 ft).

  • Day 8 : Day of Departure expand_more
    • According to your departure, transfer to Henri Coanda Airport for your return flight. End of your private tour in Romania.
