Explore the salt mines of Moray; the drive is 1 hour and 20 minutes north-east of Cusco city in the sacred valley. During the ride, you will enjoy the beautiful landscape contemplative.
Upon arrival, Moray salt mines will highlight white spots on the hillside of the sacred valley formed by more than 3000 artificial wells carved in the mountainside used from pre-Inca times, filled by natural salty water that emerges from the subsoil. Afterwards, these wells are dehydrated during the sunny days and finally obtain the most nutritious salt (pink salt).
Continue to the Moray ruins (an agricultural experimental center) famous for its sunken amphitheatre, formed by four circular terraces that seem to disappear into the earth like an artificial crater with symmetrical terraces. The site was an agricultural research station with circular terraces built, each one over the other, supporting themselves. The terraces are a complex irrigation system that allowed the Incas to grow different plant species.
Upon returning to Cusco, visit the Chinchero artisans who are the most outstanding in the area-preserving the cultural essence and customs. They will share their abilities to dye and spin their textiles using natural elements from the region.
Stop for lunch at one of the authentic local Chinchero's restaurants with a sweet view of the mountains and an overwhelming scenery (optional, not included).
