Trek to Makalu, the fifth most elevated mountain in the world (8,481m), on a 23-day tour. Encounter an assortment of scenes and societies on this part of the world’s tallest mountains, including Everest. Begin the journey in the warm, terraced farmland possessed by the Rai public, an ethnic gathering discovered dominatingly in the slopes of eastern Nepal. Pass through Rhododendron timberlands (generally noteworthy in the spring) and Cloud woodlands. Reach the Barun River Valley, and pass through steep stone precipices & glacial masses. Experience the culture and lifestyle of the Himalayan people in Nepal.

Enjoy fabulous perspectives of the seldom-seen Kangshung face of Everest.

  • Day 1 : Arrive at Kathmandu [1340m] expand_more
    • Arrive at Trivubal international airport.
    • Meet the representative from Nepal Dream Path.
    • Complete the check procedures, and meet the rest of the group.

    Stay overnight.

    The guide will share the information regarding the do's and dont's while living in Nepal.

  • Day 2 : Sightseeing in Kathmandu expand_more
    • Get familiar with the world heritage sites of Nepal; a trained city guide will be guiding in detail about the heritage sites and their history.
  • Day 3 : Fly to Tumlingtar and Drive to Num [1490m, 30min flight & 5-6 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Start with an early morning breakfast at the hotel, and transfer to the domestic airport.
    • Fly from Kathmandu heading towards Tumlingtar. Enjoy the aerial view of landscapes and gigantic mountains.
    • On reaching Tumlingtar, have lunch.
    •  Drive to Num on private vehicles or tourist buses. 
    • Witness the beauty of Nepal closely enjoying the surrounding landscapes, terrains, streams, etc. 
    • After reaching Num, drop the luggage at the teahouse, and rest there.
  • Day 4 : Trek to Seduwa via Arun Valley [1460m, 5-6 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Today, lose and regain altitude.
    • Climb down to the Arun river, and then a big ascend to Seduwa. The descend to the Arun valley can get a little tricky sometimes, while passing through the rocky steps. 
    • Reach the large Cardamon Gardens on the way. 
    • Cross the suspension bridge over the Arun River.
    • Climb up to Seduwa, passing through groves of bamboo. 
    • Reach Seduwa, a small village with a school, small shops, and scattered teahouses.
  • Day 5 : Trek to Tashi Gaon [2070m, 5-6 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Enjoy a pleasant day, ignoring harsh ascends and descends. 
    • Start with a pleasant climb through the dotted farmlands, cardamon gardens, bamboos, and Rhododendron forests.
    • Enjoy the surrounding scenery and listening to the call of cocos from trees.
    • Reach Chyaksa Danda, a place with schools and countable teahouses. 
    • Pass through the dense forest and small streams with comfortable wooden bridges.
    •  Reach the destination of the day, Tashi Gaon.
  • Day 6 : Trek to Khongma Village [1370m, 6-7 hrs walk] expand_more
    • After having breakfast at the teahouse, head towards Khongma Village.
    • Start with a pleasant climb through the rocky steps, passing through the colourful Rhododendron forest.
    • Listen to the calls of treepies and warblers from trees. 
    • Walk approximately for 3 hrs, and reach the only refreshment stop before Khogma village, and will have lunch there. 
    • Climb through the stone rest stops, prayer flags, and mani walls all the way to Khogma village.
  • Day 7 : Rest at Khongma Village expand_more
    • Stop at Khongma village, which is located at an elevation of 3,637m. Prepare and get acclimatized for the higher altitude in the upcoming days.
    • Explore around Khogma village or maybe explore Khogma La pass, situated at the elevation of 3,890 m, with an hour of a climb from the village.

    This day is necessary because the trekkers can get high altitude sickness, so the body needs to be acclimatized to the high altitude. 

  • Day 8 : Trek to Mumbak [3570m, 6-7 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Start with the climb on the slightly steeply trails penetrating through the Rhododendron forest, all the way to the top of the hill.
    • Enjoy a magnificent view of mountains like Chamling (7290m), peak 7 (6195m), and Peak 6 (6739m). 
    • Enjoy the surrounding view; the final push on the descending trail will lead us to the day's destination, Mumbak village.
  • Day 9 : Trek to Nhe Kharka [3000m, 6-7 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Lose and gain altitude and head towards Nhe Kharka, situated at an elevation of 3700m.
    • Descend first 500 m and then ascend on the sloppy muddy trails leading towards the glacial valley. 
    • Reach Nhe kharka, which is a grassy plain area with limited teahouses, and mesmerizing mountains and surrounding views.
  • Day 10 : Trek to Sherson [4615m, 7 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Climb from 3700m to 4615m to Sherson. 
    • Walk on the trail leading westwards, Walk through the alpine tundra. The walk can get a little tricky as we gradually gain height.
    • Reach Sherson; there are no teahouses stop in between.
    • Rest at the teahouse in Sherson, enjoying the view of Pyramid Peak (7168m) and Peak 4 (6720m).
  • Day 11 : Trek to Makalu Base Camp [5000m, 5-6 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Head towards your dream destination, Makalu Base Camp. 
    • Climb on a minor pass of about 100m. 
    • Reach Makalu Base Camp, and enjoy a view of the south face, the fifth highest mountain in the world, along with the clear view of Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse. 
    • Spend the rest of the day in a teahouse located at the lap of Mt. Makalu, enjoying the surrounding views.
  • Day 12 : Rest and Exploration day at Makalu Base Camp expand_more
    • Explore the Makalu Base Camp area. 
    • Climb the ridge above the Makalu Base Camp up to the elevation of around 5300m. 
    • Pass through the rivers on the wooden bridge, and follow the trail for about 3 hours, to a magnificent viewpoint.
    • Experience the surreal view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse along with the dramatic view of Makalu, Peak 7, Peak 6, and Peak 4.
    • Visit the lakes beyond Makalu Base Camp. (Another option)
  • Day 13 : Trek back to Nhe Kharka [3000m, 6-7 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Descend on the trail following the footprint back to Nhe Kharka.
  • Day 14 : Trek back to Mumbuk [3570m, 4-5 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Trek to Mumbuk retracing our steps back.
  • Day 15 : Trek back to Khongma Village [3470m, 4-5 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Trek to Khongma village, retracing our steps back.
  • Day 16 : Trek back to Tashi Gaon [2070m, 4-5 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Trek to Tashi Gaon.
  • Day 17 : Trek to Walung Phedi [825m, 5-6 hrs walk] expand_more
    • After early morning breakfast, finish the entry process for the permit at the National park office, at Seduwa.
    • Continue the journey passing through the Rai village of Mulgaon.
    • Cross the Suspension bridge over Isuwa Khola descending all the way to Walung Phedi, our destination of the day.
  • Day 18 : Trek to Pukuwa [600m, 5-6 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Have an early morning breakfast at Walung Phedi.
    • Head towards Pukuwa.
    • Pass through the dotted farmlands, forests, and streams to the spread-out Rai village. 
    • Experience the traditional culture and lifestyle of the Rai community.
  • Day 19 : Trek to Bumling [370m, 5-6 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Pass through the forests following the rock trail to the Chhetri village of Bumling.
  • Day 20 : Trek to Tumlingtar [460m, 6-7 hrs walk] expand_more
    • Trek back to Tumlingtar. 
    • Following the trail, pass through the rice terraces, farmlands, forests, and small streams.
    • Reach Tumlingtar. This is the last day we trek in this long Makalu Base Camp trek.
    • Take a hot shower.
  • Day 21 : Fly to Kathmandu expand_more
    • Fly back to Kathmandu from Tumlingtar, after the morning breakfast. 
    • Reach Kathmandu in 30 min, and transfer to the hotel in Kathmandu. 
    • Spend the rest of the day at leisure.
  • Day 22 : Explore Kathmandu expand_more
    • This day is free for personal activities.
    • Go shopping.
    •  Do a guided tour around Kathmandu Valley, with a well-trained city tour guide for the sightseeing of the valley.
  • Day 23 : International Departure expand_more
    • Transfer from the hotel to Tribhuban International Airport.
