Description

In Mesoamerica flourished, one of the most important civilizations in the world; the Maya developed here math, architecture, literature, medicine and spirituality, among other disciplines, in a complex society ruled by powerful kings, who often were the heirs of the gods on the earth. On this tour, we explore the archaeological sites of Tikal, Quirigua and Copan and the culture and traditions of Antigua, Chichicastenango and Guatemala City, along with celebrating New Year's Eve in San Ignacio.

  • Day 01: Arrive in San Ignacio (December 30th) expand_more
    • Meet the tour guide, and early in the morning, we will depart towards San Ignacio, Belize. Go through the Belizean custom and immigration services.
    • Visit Lamanai archaeological site before we continue towards our lodging.

  • Day 02: New Year's Eve (December 31st) expand_more
    • Enjoy the fun activities that San Ignacio has to offer. From cave tubing to archaeological sites, you may choose any optional activity. 
    • In the evening, we will have our New Year’s celebration (included in the cost of the tour).

  • Day 03: Tikal Archaeological Site (January 1st) expand_more
    • Depart towards Guatemala, where we will visit the Tikal archaeological site, one of the most important cities of Meso America during the classic period of Meso-America.

  • Day 04: Head to Rio Dulce (January 2nd) expand_more
    • Continue our journey to Rio Dulce, where we will arrive at our lodging to enjoy swimming in the river or an optional tour of the hot springs.

  • Day 05: Kayak Tour - Livingstone (January 3rd) expand_more
    • Take a Kayak tour in the morning on the Rio Dulce along the canyon until we reach Livingston.
    • Spend the afternoon in this Garifuna village enjoying their music, gastronomy and traditions.

  • Day 06: Quirigua archaeological Site (January 4th) expand_more
    • Visit Quirigua archaeological site on our route to Copan Ruinas, where we will find the tallest Mayan Stella ever found.
    • After discovering it, we will continue our journey to the border with Honduras, where we will find our next lodging.

  • Day 07: Copan Archaeological Site (January 5th) expand_more
    • Use the morning to enjoy the beauty of the Copan archaeological site along with our licensed tour guide. We will use the afternoon as leisure to visit the town on a pleasant walking tour.

  • Day 08: Reach Antigua (January 6th) expand_more
    • Travel towards Antigua, twice the former capital of Guatemala, a most beautiful colonial city destroyed by the Agua Volcano and the earthquakes!

  • Day 09: Antigua City Tour (January 7th) expand_more
    • Enjoy the beauty of the city of Antigua, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  • Day 10: Santo Tomás Chichicastenango (January 8th) expand_more
    • Head to Santo Tomás Chichicastenango, which hosts a famous market where vendors sell handicrafts, food, flowers, pottery, wooden boxes, condiments, medicinal plants and several other objects, including textiles and masks used by dancers in traditional dances. 
    • After our visit, we will continue our journey towards Guatemala city.

    • Transfer to La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala at a convenient time.

  • The Garifuna people, or Garinagu, are the descendants of indigenous Caribs and African slaves who managed to escape from British and Spanish Caribbean plantations or survived shipwrecks who originally lived in the Caribbean island of Saint Vincent.
  • The original diaspora was transplanted to the Central American coast from the Caribbean island of Saint Vincent at the end of the 18th century, after living initially in the islands of Jamaica and Roatan; today, the majority of the population resides in the Honduras Gulf, particularly in southern Belize, Livingston Guatemala, Nicaragua and the United States. In 2001 UNESCO proclaimed the language, dance and music of the Garifuna as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
