7 Days Culture tour itinerary for morocco: Set Off On An Imperial Tour Of Major Moroccan Cities

Explore the pearl of the north and the blue city along with the imperial cities of Morocco, where the authenticity is mixed with the modern architecture of its Royal tombs and Palaces. Also, discover the cultural and spiritual capital with its labyrinth markets and the beautiful colourful souks.

DAY 01

Casablanca - CHEFCHAOUEN

  • Head from your hotel in Casablanca or the airport to Chefchaouen.

  • On the way, take some short stops for refreshment.

  • Go to the city of lights with your Moroccan tour guide.

DAY 02


  • Today, you will have a free day to walk around and explore the highlights of the blue city.

DAY 03


  • After breakfast, start travelling to Fes via Ouazzani and the Roman site of Volubilis.

  • After a couple of hours drive, you will get to Volubilis, the well preserved Roman empire dating to 225 BC.

  • See the most beautiful mosaics in Morocco, dating back to 3rd-century BCE. Here you will have a guided tour of the site and learn a lot about the Roman Empire.

  • Travel to Meknes, the Ismaili capital of Morocco to see the fascinating gate of  Bab Mansour, the granary and the Sahrij Souani, used for irrigation and plantation. Your visit includes also the Mulay Ismail Mausoleum.

  • Continue via the highway to Fes.

DAY 04


  • After breakfast, start exploring Fes the “the Spiritual City of Morocco”.

  • Spend the whole morning exploring the Medina and its alleys; visiting most of the sites with cultural and historical interest - including the famous Al Karaouine Mosque and University (the oldest in the world), the Medrasa Bouanania, the Tanneries and the Najjarine fountain.

  • After lunch, drive outside the Medina to see the Royal Palace gate, walk through the Jewish quarter “the Mellah”, and then visit the pottery cooperative.

  • In the afternoon, head to one of the fortresses, to experience an amazing panoramic view of the whole Medina of Fes.

DAY 05


  • After breakfast, start travelling south to Merzouga desert via Midelt and Errachidia.

  • First stop will be at Ifrane city, referred to as "the Switzerland of Morocco", and then to Merzouga via Midlet and the Ziz Valley. During this journey, you’ll experience glimpses of the Middle Atlas and Higher Atlas mountains.

  • Stop at the famous cedar forest - the largest one in Morocco – where you will have the opportunity to see the Barbarian apes. You’ll notice how the scenery changes to reveal hints of the desert as you approach the Er Rachidia city.

  • After lunch in Midelt, the journey continues along the spectacular Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views along the way. 

  • Drive through Berber villages to Erfoud, then to Rissani; the foundation of the Alaouite dynasty - the current ruling royal family of Morocco.

  • Arriving in Merzouga at the end of the day, be welcomed with a glass of mint tea and ride your camel to see the sunset in the middle of the highest sand dunes and spend the night there.

Overnight at a well-equipped desert camp where you will have your dinner.

DAY 06


  • Get woken up by your camel guide early in the morning, to watch what well may be the best sunrise of your life. 

  • Afterwards, peacefully camel-trek back to your riad, appreciating the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes – changing with the light as the day progresses.

  • After breakfast and hot shower in a traditional guest house, you’ll leave for Tinghir and Todra Gorges – the highest, narrowest gorges in Morocco. Here you’ll have the opportunity to hike along its valley.

  • Drive through the Dades Valley, where you’ll see the majestic sand castles and some amazing rock formations, popularly known as “monkey toes”.

Overnight accommodation will be in a riad or a guesthouse in the heart of the gorge. (Dinner and Breakfast).

DAY 07


  • After breakfast, drive through the Dades Valley towards Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. The route through Dades Valley is named the way of thousand Kasbahs – providing numerous opportunities to take some of your best photographic shots of the trip.

  • Stop at Kalaat Mgouna, “the rose city".

  • Continue to Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa”.

  • Eat lunch at the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco. It is recognized by UNESCO as a world patrimony. apart from being a famous backdrop for many films, including 'Lawrence of Arabia', 'Gladiator', etc.

  • The journey will continue through the majestic Tizi ‘n’ Tichka pass (2260 m) over the High Atlas Mountains.

  • Stop also to explore the process of making the argan oil at the women's cooperatives.

  • Arrive at your accommodation in Marrakech, where the tour ends.
