8 Hours History tour itinerary for Riga: Tour The City Of Beautiful Castles And Palaces
Discover one of Latvia’s hidden treasures, the Palace of Rundale, which is one of the most outstanding monuments of Baroque and Rococo art in northern Europe. Also visit Bauska Castle and enjoy sightseeing in Jelgava city.
09:00 am – 10:30 am: From Riga, proceed towards Bauska. It takes around 1 hour (Depends on traffic).
10:30 am – 1:30 pm: Excursion to Rundāle Palace, an exceptional monument full of Baroque and Rococo art. Built in the mid 18th-Century by the Russian court architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, it was the summer residence of the Duke of Courland. The two-storey castle contains 138 elaborate rooms, a lovely French garden, and a museum dedicated to the history of Latvia.
1:30 pm – 3:00 pm: Have lunch at a local restaurant.
3:00 pm – 4:00 pm: Visit Bauska Castle located in the town of Bauska. It sits quaintly amidst picturesque scenery on a strip of land between the Rivers Musa and Memele, not far from the place where they flow together forming the Lielupe. The Bauska Castle ensemble consists of two parts. The oldest, a Livonian Order’s castle, was built in mid-15th century and only its ruins have survived.
4:00 pm – 5:30 pm: Travel back to Riga and then visit Jelgava city for short sightseeing.
