9 Days History tour itinerary for sri-lanka: Hit Upon The Most Striking Cities

• Upon arrival to Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan guide/driver will drive you to  Negombo, which is around 30 minutes drive.

Overnight stay in Negombo.

• After breakfast, you will travel to Wilpattu National Park for an evening safari.

• After breakfast, start your day with a visit to the cradle of the Sinhalese Buddhist civilizations. Here, see the main attractions like Yaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweliseya Dagoba, Mirisavetiya Dagoba, Jetavanarama Stupa, Tuparama Stupa, Abhayagiri Dagoba, Twin Ponds and Isurumuniya Vihara.

• Break for lunch.

• Proceed to Sigiriya with your Srilanka tour guide.

• After breakfast, proceed to yet another UNESCO world heritage site in Sri Lanka - Sigiriya. It is a wonderful ancient palace built atop a 660 feet tall rock column. This wonderful rock castle is a creation of King Kassapa (AD 477-495). It is also one of the biggest attractions of Sri Lanka and attracts people with its stunning frescoes.
  

• In the afternoon around 2.30 pm, head for safaris to the Kaudulla National Park or Minneriya National Park, which is home to hundreds of wildlife elephants.

Overnight stay in Sigiriya.

• After breakfast, set off to discover the famous cave temples and also the iconic golden temple.

• One of the eight world heritage sites in Sri Lanka, Dambulla heritage site has a history dating from prehistoric and proto-historic times, till the modern period.

• On your way to Kandy, stopover at Dambulla to catch a glimpse of the wonderful cave temples, ironwood forest and rose quartz mountain. Time for some photography.

• While you are in Kandy you will get the opportunity of visiting the Temple of the Tooth and a city tour.

Overnight stay in Hill Capital Kandy.

• After breakfast, head towards Nuwara Eliya, a city of leisure and pleasure and en route take a visit to a Tea factory.

• Visiting the Ramboda Waterfalls.

• Proceed to Nuwara Eliya, which is the old colonial outpost still referred to as "Little England".

Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.

• After breakfast, visit the 'World‘s End' at Horton Plains.  

• After you are back from the hike, you will travel to the station to catch the most beautiful train journey in Sri Lanka which is from Nuwara Eliya to Ella.    

Overnight stay in Ella.

• After breakfast, travel to Colombo.

• En-route, you can get wet at the best white water rafting spot in Sri Lanka.

• After spending some time there, head towards the commercial capital and the largest city with a population of nearly five million. Colombo's one of the best destinations in Sri Lanka with scores of attractions in the metropolis and suburban areas. 

Overnight stay in Colombo.

• Drop off to the airport. End of tour.
