Visit Deniyaya, one of the smallest towns in Sri Lanka and experience hilly virgin rainforests like never before. Walk through jungle trails, go birding and spot the famous Sri Lankan Blue Magpie, and capture rare endemic amphibians on this one-day birdwatching tour.
DAY 01

2.00 AM: Start your one-day bird watching tour with a four-hour drive from Colombo to Deniyaya.
6.00 AM: Upon arrival, go to the buffer zone. Board a tuk-tuk from this point and travel through the picturesque landscape of rice fields, palm trees, and bamboo forests. It is important to note that cars cannot go beyond the buffer zone.
Spot local birds like the Grey Hornbill, Sri Lankan Hanging Parrot, Black-headed Ibis and the Wood Pigeon during the tuk-tuk ride.
Your guide will take you along a well-marked trail under the 45-meter-high canopy. Explore the rainforest at a slow pace and avoid bloodsucking leeches.
Walk quietly under the four-layer canopy structure, using peripheral vision to spot the avian population. Identify certain medicinal plants that are found in this area. Capture a variety of lizards, spiders, endemic black monkeys, giant squirrels, black centipedes and all kinds of local flora as you walk.
Stop for lunch at a natural stone terrace before heading back to the buffer zone.
Explore the villages near the buffer zone and observe the rustic lifestyle of these indigenous people.
3:00 PM: Travel back to Colombo at the end of the bird watching tour.
