Jodhpur

Jodhpur is a thriving historic city located at the edge of the Thar Desert. The city boasts traditional cuisine, fine handicrafts, rich carpets and marble.  The energy in Jodhpur is warm and colorful, thumping with the vibrant passion of folk song and dance.
Jodhpur has multiple epithets as the “Sun City” and the “Blue City”. “Sun City” because of the bright sun that shines down on it all year through, and “Blue City” to address the blue painted houses that outline the fort of Mehrangarh.
Many traditional festivals can be attended throughout the year, including Nag Panchami, Marwar festivals, Nav Sati, Gangaur, Veerpuri fair, Holi, Diwali, among others.  Ask for the assistance of Jodhpur tourist guides with travel during these crowded festival times.
Polo is the very popular royal sport in Jodhpur, and equestrian events are popularly held as traditional sport. Trivia Alert: the word “Jodhpurs” defining the riding breeches used when riding a horse derives it etymology from this city.
The Fort of Mehrangah, one of the largest forts in India is the most popular attraction in Jodhpur. Encompassing palaces with intricate latticework, temples and vast gardens, it is very easy to get lost in time and the splendour of this charming fort.   Jaswant Thada is a white marble memorial temple, an easy walk down from the fort. The romantic Umaid Bhawan is still home to the royal family, which resides in a part of it; the rest of it has been converted into a luxury hotel. Having paid homage to the landmarks, enjoy the city for its temples that liberally dot the cityscape, haggle at the colourful bazaars for bandhni , silver jewellery and your own pair of “jodhpuris” and definitely get a taste of the mouthwatering “mithais” and savoury items that will leave you asking for more!
