" Bahir Dar is an town often overlooked by crowds making their way to hyped locations like Lalibela and Gondar, but is not to be missed. It is decidedly less touristy and yet boasts world-class hotels, restaurants, and green promenades along the shore of Ethiopia's biggest lake.Abel offers an excellent tour around some of the religious landmarks of Bahir Dar which you might be intimidated to visit if exploring on your own, as I was. His excellent command of English also really helps as the background and history of these sites is usually lost to the casual traveler. Abel knows the town really well and can also put you in touch with the local side of Bahir Dar, the daily life of the town as experienced by its citizens. While tourist-oriented businesses abound in Bahir Dar and are hard to miss, Abel was an invaluable companion when I needed to access the local market for some emergency shopping.I wholeheartedly recommend Abel's tour service, especially for travelers on an extended stay with the time to explore the ins and outs of the town :)
