My partner and I stumbled across Randy's St. Louis Cemetery #1 tour when we arrived at the gates on our own. We didn't know this but it is against the rules to visit on your own . . . you have to go with a guide, and we were assigned to Randy. I'm so glad we were!!! Randy was so knowlegable and entertaining, he transformed what might have been a ten-minute cursory look-see on our own into an hour of really fascinating (and even fun) information, relating the NOLA funerary customs seamlessly to the history, culture, and lore of the city over centuries--and tying all of these into the world at large in a way so few people have the knowledge or capability to do. Afterward, my partner and I seriously discussed scheduling another trip to NOLA just to be shown around by Randy. We met him on the last day of our trip, and despite all of the touring we had already done (three other tour guides and a walking tour from a book), we felt like we hadn't experienced the city at all until we spent an hour with Randy in the cemetery. It was a joy to experience a master of a craft at work in his element.
