I arrived in Porto Alegre as a single traveller who was a bit shy and worried id miss out on the city's delights as I don't speak Portuguese. My hotel put me in touch with Renata who joined me on a coach tour of Grimado and Canela. I couldn't believe how warm and friendly Renata was. From the moment we met, she made me feel so relaxed and welcome. Within half an hour we were giggling as though we had been friends for years and I had more fun on that day than on nanny other day in my 9 months travelling. Not only was Renata extremely friendly, her English is absolutely incredible. She even knew colloquial words so I felt as though I was talking to a friend from back home rather than someone who speaks English as a second language. Renata's knowledge was also first rate - she knew everything about the area as well as general knowledge about things like why statues of horses are sometimes shown with one or two legs off the floor (you'll have to book a tour with her to find out the answer!) Renata gave me so much of her time and genuinely loves sharing her local knowledge so it's a real pleasure spending a day with her. I can't imagine you could find a better tour guide so if you want to see the best of the city with some fantastic company then you can't do better than going with Renata.
