Description

Travel from Delhi, the capital of India, to Shimla, the ex-summer capital of British India and the most heavenly hilly abode for tourists. En-route, see the holy city of Amritsar, and the city of Dharamshala, home to Dalai Lama. Go to the Shiva Temple and Kangra Fort in Bajinath, and head towards your destination, Shimla. While returning from Shimla, stroll through the magnificent Mughal gardens of Pinjore. Visit the gardens and museums of Chandigarh before heading back to Delhi by Shatabdi Express.  

  • Day 1: Arrival Delhi & Sightseeing expand_more
    • Arrival in Delhi. After the customs formalities and meet with your representative, who will be waiting for you outside Gate Number 5 with your name placard. 
    • Start your day with a visit to Old Delhi, also called as Shahjahanabad. 
    • Visit the world-famous Jama Masjid, the biggest Friday Mosque of India, which can host upto 20,000 Worshippers. 
    • Take a ride on a pedal rickshaw through the narrow alleys of the famous Chandni Chowk Market. 
    • Proceed Towards Rajghat – The Tomb of Mahatma Gandhi called as The Father of the Nation. 
    • In the afternoon, visit the colonial Delhi monuments.
    • Drive through Rajpath to view the Parliament House, the President’s House and India Gate. 
    • End your day with a visit to the Qutub Minar, a Unesco World Heritage Site. 
    • Proceed towards hotel check-in.

    Spend overnight in Delhi.

  • Day 2: Delhi - Amritsar By Flight expand_more
    • Have breakfast in the morning and take the flight to Amritsar.
    • Transfer to hotel and check-in. 
    • Visit the Golden Temple and, later, visit the Garden of Jalian Wallan Bagh. 
    • Afternoon free time to rest.
    • Around 3 PM, drive to Wagah Border to see the Closing Ceremony event, which starts exactly by 5.30 PM everyday. Border closing 'lowering of the flags' ceremony is a daily military practise that the security forces of India and Pakistan. This ceremony takes place every evening before sunset at the Wagah border, which as part of the Grand Trunk Road was the only road link between these two countries before the opening of the Aman Setu in Kashmir in 1999. The ceremony starts with a blustering parade by the soldiers from both the sides and ends up in the perfectly coordinated lowering of the two nations flags, it is called the beating retreat border ceremony on the international level. One infantryman (Jawan) stands at attention on each side of the gate. As the sun sets, the iron gate at the border is opened and the flags are lowered. The flags are folded and the ceremony ends with a retreat that involves a brusque handshake between soldiers from either side. 
    • Return back to Hotel and overnight in Amritsar.

  • Day 3: Amritsar - Dharamshala expand_more
    • Breakfast at the hotel and drive to McLeodganj (Dharamshala), magnificently set to the background of the Dhauldhar mountains and the seat of his Holiness, the Dalai Lama, the leader of the Tibetans, since 1960. 
    • On arrival, check in to the hotel.
    • In the evening, visit Dal Lake, Church, Bhagsu Nag Temple and Tibetan Monastery. 

    Overnight stay in Dharamshala.

  • Day 4: Dharamshala – Baijnath expand_more

    • Explore the town of Kangra.
    • Continue to Baijnath and accommodation at the hotel for an overnight stay in Baijnath.

  • Day 5: Baijnath Sightseeing expand_more
    • Have breakfast in the morning and visit an important 8th century Shiva Temple with exquisitely carved reliefs. 
    • Continue to Masrur, a fascinating archaeological site, a rocky hill which was carved from above into below in the 8th and 9th centuries. 
    • Proceed to visit the Kangra Fort, damaged by an earthquake in 1905. 
    • Return to the hotel for overnight in Baijnath.

  • Day 6: Baijnath - Shimla expand_more
    • Have breakfast in the hotel and transfer to Shimla. Shimla was the summer capital of India in British Times. Its colonial heritage includes grand old buildings which portray a unique architecture of British era. Shimla is a place where the glory of nature is accompanied by the distinctive infrastructure of colonial times. 
    • Upon arrival, check-in. 
    • In the evening, enjoy a walk on the bustling Mall Road, a major attraction of Shimla. 

    Overnight in Shimla.

  • Day 7: Shimla – Kufri - Shimla expand_more
    • Take an excursion trip to Kufri, a jewel in the Himalayas. The spectacular view of dense forests, deep valleys and high mountains will leave you mesmerized. 
    • Visit Himalayan Nature Park. 
    • You can also take part in various sports activities. 

    Return to Shimla for an overnight stay.

  • Day 8: Shimla – Pinjore – Chandigarh expand_more
    • Have breakfast and proceed to Pinjore (92km; 3 hours approx) and visit the magnificent Mughal Gardens created in 1620 by Fidal Khan, court architect and brother of the emperor Aurangzeb. 
    • Continue to Chandigarh (23km; 40 minutes approx) and check-in to the hotel.
    • In the afternoon, visit the highlights of Chandigarh, such as the Rose Garden, the Rock Garden and the Museum.

    Spend overnight in Chandigarh.

  • Day 9: Chandigarh – Delhi by Train expand_more

    • In the afternoon, transfer to the railway station to take the Shatabdi Express for Delhi (3 hours and 30 minutes). 
    • Arrival and transfer to the airport.
