6 Days Culture tour itinerary for india: Take Scenic Captures Of Kerala Hills & Backwaters
Kochi, Munnar, Thekkady, Alappuzha, Kovalam, Kanyakumari, Trivandrum
Delight with a never before seen side of Kerala on this tour with visits to tea plantations, pristine valleys, mountains, spices scented plantations, resort towns, hill towns and inland waterways and small canals at these major tourist cities.
Cochin to Munnar ( 135 Kms/04 hrs drive)
Pick up from Cochin International Airport/Railway Station. Proceed to Munnar - a pleasing 4 hour journey riding through the picturesque hills jacketed in greenish tea and spice plantations. Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams; Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. Situated at 1600 m above sea level, this hill station was the favored summer resort of the erstwhile British rulers in the colonial days. Sprawling tea plantations, pristine valleys, mountains and aroma of spice scented cool air make Munnar an excellent resort town. Among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands here is the Neelakurinji flower that blooms once in every twelve years.
On arrival, check in at a hotel here and proceed for rest and overnight stay.
MUnnar to thekkady (110 Kms/03 hrs drive)
After breakfast, drive to Thekkady, which will be a scenic 3 hour drive from Munnar. The very sound of the word Thekkady conjures up images of elephants, unending chains of hills and spices scented plantations. In the Periyar forest of Thekkady is also one of the finest wildlife reserves in India, and spread across the entire district here are picturesque hill towns that hold great opportunities for treks and mountain walks.
On arrival, check in at a hotel, freshen up and visit a local spice market and spice plantations. Here you can see the Pepper, Cardamom, Vanilla, Cinnamon and other spices that are grown.
Note, Optional activities like Boating, Bullock cart ride, Bamboo Rafting, Trekking, Elephant safari, Spice Plantation Tour, Border Hiking, Tribal Village Visit, Cloud Walk, Periyar Tiger Trail, Kalari Payattu (A traditional Martial Art), Kathakali Show traditional performance art), Jungle Jeep Safari and Ayurveda Massages etc. are also available here in Thekkady and these are not included in the package. But, if you are interested in any of these activities, we can guide you promptly with the supplementary charges.
Overnight stay at Thekkady.
Thekkady - Alleppey ( 165 Kms/4 hrs drive)
After early breakfast, proceed for Alleppey (The Venice of the East). This district consists of immense natural beauty, caressed by the Arabian Sea in the west and a vast network of lakes, lagoons and freshwater rivers criss-crossing the backwater county.
On arrival here, check-in at a houseboat for cruise rides. A houseboat is a luxury boat made in ethnic Kerala style consisting of a sitting room, bedrooms, toilet and kitchen. Enjoy the tranquil beauty of the inland waters and the countryside for one day. This will take you through narrow canals of Pathiramanal Island, Virgin village, paddy fields and the Coconut beer shop (Toddy shop) at Kuttanad village. Enjoy spectacular lush green paddy fields and notice the life style of village people and their activities like Coir roping, Toddy tapping etc. Meals served will be of typical Kerala cuisine. *Welcome Drink: Tender Coconut, Lunch: Boiled/Basmati Rice, vegetables, fish fry/curry, salads, Pappad. Evening: Tea/coffee with snacks & Banana Fry. Candle Light Dinner: Rice/Chapathy, Dal Curry, Vegetable Curries and Chicken Curry. Breakfast: Bread with butter, jam & eggs or Kerala style Breakfast (Iddly/Dosa). All meals will be provided in the House Boat. Any changes required will have to be intimated in advance. Pure Vegetarian dishes, Dishes with Less Spicy for European Guest, North Indian Recipes etc. are also known to our Chef. Guest can also buy fresh Prawn, crab or any fresh fish during their cruise from fishermen (fresh catch) and our Chef will prepare it for the guest according to their taste without any additional charge.
Overnight stay at a Houseboat.
trivandrum - KOVALAM
After early breakfast, stroll on the beach enjoying the bay of calm waters ideal for sea bathing.
Proceed to Trivandrum city sightseeing. Visit Padmanabha Swamy Temple which is located inside the East Fort. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple is a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian architectural styles. It is also known for its mural paintings and stone carving. (Dress Code: Dhoti for men and saree for women).
Visit the Zoological Park. The timings here are from 10.00 am to 6.15 pm and is closed on Mondays.
Explore the Science and Technology Museum Complex for exhibits related to Science, Technology and Electronics. The timings are from 10 am to 5 pm and is closed on Mondays.
Continue with visits to the Priyadarshini Planetarium. The timings for daily shows are from 10 am to 5 pm.
Other places worth visiting are the Napier Museum and the Sree Chitra Art Gallery. (The timings are from 10 am to 4:45 pm and are closed on Mondays and Wednesday forenoons). Located near the Napier Museum, this art gallery displays select paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, Svetlana and Nicholas Roerich and also exquisite works from the Rajput, Mughal and Tanjore schools of art in India. The collection also includes paintings from China, Japan, Tibet and Bali.
At evening, enjoy some time by the beach and watch the sunset.
Overnight stay at Kovalam.
Begin with a day visit to Kanyakumari for local sightseeing.
Return to Kovalam in the evening for overnight stay.
After breakfast, depart with a lot of memories and thousands of photographs. The cab will drop you at the Trivandrum International airport or railway station from Kovalam (25 km). It is a distance of 275 km till Cochin Airport.

Use of fans in houseboat should be restricted to nighttime as they are solar powered. Use during the day may exhaust the power supply. In Houseboat, the air-conditioner in the bedrooms will be switched on only from 8:00 pm to 7:00 am.
