Visit The Hurva or Hurvat Rabbi Yehudah he-Hasid ("Ruin of Rabbi Judah the Pious"). It is a historic synagogue founded in the early 18th century by followers of Judah he-Hasid. In 1721, it was destroyed by Muslims and was rebuilt in 1864 by Perushim.
Followed by a visit to two other synagogues shrouded by mysterious historical stories.
Tiferet Israel - counted among the most beautiful synagogues in the Old City of Jerusalem in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Ohel Yitzchak - earlier known as the Shomrei ha-Chomos Synagogue, it was constructed in the 1870s by Kolel Shomrei Ha Chomos, which was an organization of Hungarian Jews.
The Hurva was the main Ashkenazi synagogue of the Old City and stood as a landmark for almost 100 years until it was blown up by the Jordanian Legion after they had captured the Jewish quarter on May 27, 1948. After the Six-Day War, when Israel captured the Old City and there were discussions about rebuilding the synagogue. World-class Jewish American architect Louis Kahn was invited to Israel to propose what should be done. Follow Kahn's footsteps as he explored the historical geography of the area before he was found dead of a heart attack in New York City's Penn station.
