Description

Enjoy hiking on Medvednica, a mountain in central Croatia, just north of Zagreb, and marking the southern border of the historic region of Zagorje. The highest peak, at 1,035 m is Sljeme. Most of the area of Medvednica is a nature park, a type of preservation lesser than a national park, famous for its wild pigs, rabbits, deers, woodpeckers, etc. Also pass along the 3th century Medvjedgrad Castle, an old lead-zinc ore mine as well as Queen's Well, one of the strongest springs of Kraljevac stream.

    • Pick up from your hotel in Zagreb.

    • Start the trek at the Medvedgrad castle, a medieval fortified town located on the south slopes of Medvednica mountain, approximately halfway from the Croatian capital Zagreb to the mountain top Sljeme.

    • Next, visit the Medvedgrad fortress, this landmark is devoted to the Croatian soldiers who fought for independence.

    • From here, we first climb the Lead-zinc ore mine followed by descending into the underground corridors of the St. Barbara wooden chapel.

    • Then, we reach the ski slopes on the top of the Medvednica Mountain, which is covered with dense beech, oak, chestnut and fir trees and is certainly the favorite excursion destination of the Zagreb citizens.

    • Lastly, we visit the Queen's well, one of the strongest springs of Kraljevac stream and a popular Zagreb's resort since old times.

    • Drop-off to your hotel  Zagreb.

What's Included
