St. Louis Cemetery #1
St. Louis Cemetery #1 is the oldest cemetery in New Orleans. Here you will learn how disease and sanitation (and not water) dictated burial customs; Randy will take you through time as you learn the hows and whys of entombment, wall (a.k.a. "oven") vaults, visit above-ground tombs & below-ground graves, hear stories of yellow fever, supreme court cases, music - jazz AND classical, chess champions and voodoo queens.
Every Thursday, 10 am & 1 pm
Every Friday, 10 am & 1 pm
Every Saturday, 10 am & 1 pm
NOTE: AS OF MARCH 1, 2015 TOURISTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ENTER THE CEMETERY UNACCOMPANIED BY A LICENSED TOUR GUIDE WHO IS CERTIFIED WITH THE ARCHDIOCESE. RANDY IS PROUD TO HAVE HIS ARCHDIOCESAN CERTIFICATION.
- It is advised that you wear a hat and have a bottle of water.
- The cemetery can be extremely hot and shade is at a premium. Bring comfortable walking shoes and be sure to watch your step.
- Due to the unsteady nature of our ground, our streets and sidewalks are extremely uneven.
