8 Hour Makasutu Culture Forest Excursion

Go deep into the Makasutu Cultural Forest, which is a tropical 1000-acre reserve encompassing five different eco-systems, including gallery forest, savannah, mangroves, palm forest and wetland. Enjoy a boat ride on the Gambia River, try the delicious local palm wine, do a forest walk and lunch along with some local entertainment.

Get picked up at 8 am.
Drive from Serre Kunda towards Makasutu Culture Forest, outside Brikama.
Arrive at the Eco-tourist centre and get received by camp members.
Depending on the river tide, first go on a boat cruise in a canoe to stroll around the mangrove swamps of the Gambia River, where you can see local women collecting oysters from the mangrove in the creeks.
Go on a forest walk and get a chance to see Gambian Herbs man at work. Keep on walking towards the end where you will meet a palm wine tapper to sample local liquor from the palm tree.
Drive to the base in a vehicle.
Enjoy lunch and entertainment with the locals, especially a man playing a 21 string instrument.
Return to your accommodation.
