    • Meet up with your local guide and begin the tour.
    • Depart from Accra to Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Kingdom. It was founded in 1695 by the Asantehene (King) Osei Tutu. Explore this city's palaces, forts, museums and churches, which provide a different backdrop for important festivals and ceremonies of high importance to the people of Ashanti.
    • Visit the Manhyia Palace and Museum, where you will learn the history of the Ashantis. Disputes are still settled following centuries-old customs in this palace, where the King has the final word.
    • Continue to Kumasi Central Market, the largest open market in West Africa, where over 10,000 vendors sell their wares, from food to herbs to beauty products and crafts.

  • Day 2: Kumasi Art Tour expand_more
    • Visit the Ashanti craft villages starting from the woodcarving village of Ahwiaa, known for the talented craftsmen who fashion royal stools, walking sticks and fertility dolls.
    • Go to Ntonso, where artisans hand-stamp patterns on a cotton cloth to make Adinkra textiles. They are primarily worn for funerals and other solemn occasions.
    • Make your way to Bonwire, where the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms in a time-honoured tradition passed down through generations.

Know before you go
  • Obtain your visa for travel to Ghana. Receive a required yellow fever vaccination and bring proof of such vaccination.
  • Make copies of your passport, insurance and plane tickets. Leave copies at home and bring some copies along in case anything goes missing.
