Witness the war come alive at the coast

Witness a mission

Normandy Coast (Battlefield)-France

Witness the capture of the critical eastern flank of the landings and then the eastern British and Canadian beaches. Learn your battlefield tactics as these  historical places have seen the 6th Airborne Division, commanded by Major General Richard Gale, tasked with holding the eastern flank of the invasion forces and to stop German counter attacks coming from the east.

DAY 01

Program Itinerary

View the war from close corner as mission was carried out in these ways :

  • The bridges across the River Orne and the Caen canal had to be captured and held intact to enable the seaborne reinforcements to cross.

  • The Merville gun battery had to be put out of action. The 100mm caliber guns could fire down on to Sword Beach and the Allied fleet off the coast. 800 men were tasked with this objective.. just under 100 walked away having successfully destroyed the guns.

  • The bridges across the River Dives had to be destroyed to prevent German reinforcements, arriving from the east, from crossing. The high ground had to be taken and held by the division.

  • Visit the museums and war memorials, alongside the above mentioned spots, in order to get a better understanding

  • 400 EUR Per Group (* Comment!)
  • Some of the normal routes.

  • Admission fees for Museums. Cost of entry to two museums around EU6 each per museum.

  • Donations - some sites rely on this rather than formal fees.

  • Extra day covering the American sector ... the British and Canadian sector is only half the D Day beaches and there is a full day to see the other sector with sites and items not found in the British and Canadian sector.

The missions were accomplished with great success before dawn on D-Day but with heavy losses. More than 2000 soldiers lie in peace at the Commonwealth War Graves cemetery at Ranville several kilometres from the museum.

Extra day covering the American sector ... the British and Canadian sector is only half the D Day beaches and there is a full day to see the other sector with sites and items not found in the British and Canadian sector.
