Trekking to Point Lenana
Nanyuki-Kenya
Go trekking along Sirimon route. Representing Mt. Kenya, it is one of the easiest routes to reach Point Lenana, is on the dry side of the mountain, and affords walks through old growth forest on lower slopes and giant heather, alpine flowers, and lobelia in higher elevations.
DAY 01
Arrival
Arrive and drive to Nanyuki, which is the base of climbing.
It is also a good place for acclimatization.
DAY 02
Nairobi – Sirimon- Old Moses
Early breakfast and then drive to the park gate.
After lunch, follow the track uphill for 10 km to Old Moses camp which is situated at 3,300M.
Dinner and overnight at Old Moses camp.
DAY 03
Old Moses – Shiptons Camp
After breakfast, leave at 0800 hrs; cross several small streams to reach the crest of the ridge between the Ontulili and Liki North Valleys, then into Mackinders valley, continue walking to Shipton's camp 4250M.
Dinner and overnight at Shipton's camp.
DAY 04
Shiptons - Point Lenana - Old Moses
Wake up at 0200 hrs, have tea and biscuits, then leave at 0300 hrs for the Lenana summit. This section is a long, hard slog, and the path is indistinct in places. Expect to reach point Lenana at 0630 hrs and catch the sunrise.
After enjoying the views and taking your pictures, descend down to Shipton's camp and further on to Old Moses for dinner & overnight.
DAY 05
Old Moses – Sirimon Gate-Nairobi
Breakfast and departure for Sirimon gate, where we can go to Nanyuki for Lunch.
After lunch, we will proceed to Nairobi after a very memorable climb up Mt. Kenya.
Expect to return to Nairobi by 1830hrs.
