Description

Enjoy a 5-day hike to Koitobos Peak and experience this amazing and unique part of the world, home to an extinct volcano that nestles beautiful landscapes, unique flora, abundant birdlife, and primates. Begin at the Chorlim Gate, summit the Koitobos peak, and pass by bamboo forests, Kitum cave, and Makigeny cave. 

  • Day 1 : Nairobi to Kitale expand_more

    • Drive from the hotel in Nairobi in the morning towards Kitale town (470 km, 7-8 hours).

    Dinner and overnight at Kitale. 

  • Day 2 : Kitale - Chorlim Gate - Mitamaiyo Campsite expand_more

    • After breakfast at the hotel, drive to Chorlim gate and check in.

    • Start walking to the 1st camp located at the Mitamaiyo campsite (5 hours). Lunch will be en-route and dinner at the camp.

  • Day 3 : Mitamaiyo - Koitobos Peak expand_more

    • Leave the camp early morning to Koitobos camp; arrive in time for lunch. 

    • After lunch, leave the camp for the summit (Koitobos peak, 13,852 ft).

    • Later in the evening, descend down to Koitobos campsite camp for dinner.

  • Day 4 : Koitobos Campsite - Endebess Bluff Campsite expand_more

    • After early breakfast, descend down to Endebess Campsite. The journey will be through dense Bamboo forest and canopy of olive Olea Hochstetteri and Aningueria Adolfi-Freidericii wet montane forest.

  • Day 5 : Endebees - Kitale expand_more

    • Leave Endebess Bluff after breakfast, and proceed towards Chorlim Gate via Kitum cave and Makigeny Cave. 

    • After checking out, drive out to Kitale town.
