Explore the Masai Cultural Village where you can experience one of the ancient cultures of the world.
Nairobi – Naivasha - Lake Nakuru National Park
Depart Nairobi and head North down the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. Take a brief stop at the viewpoint for a few camera shots of this amazing natural phenomenon.
Then drive to Lake Naivasha where you will have a boat safari at an extra cost. This will help you see Hippos at close range and also the birdlife in this lake.
Then proceed to Nakuru which will be reached in time for lunch at Lake Nakuru Lodge.
After lunch, we depart for a game drive in this park which is dubbed ‘the greatest bird spectacle on earth’ due to the millions of Fuchsia-Pink Flamingos that flock to feed on the teeming algae of its alkaline waters. Lake Nakuru is also an Ornithologist’s Paradise. It has a uniquely rewarding game-viewing venue and a sanctuary for both the Black Rhino and the endangered White Rhino. The park offers an incredible 450 different species of birds which are water, fish-eating, terrestrial and migratory birds to include Pelican, Fish Eagle, Secretary Bird, Heron, Egret, Hammerkop and Grebe.
In the evening we return to Lake Nakuru Lodge or Town Hotel for dinner and overnight.
Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara Game Reserve
After breakfast depart Nakuru and drive through the Great Rift Valley, the dramatic landscape and the plains inhabited by the Masai pastoralists and across the ‘bread basket’ of Kenya covered with acres of wheat and barley.
We take a brief stop at Narok town for refuelling and then climb the western wall entering Hemingway’s country; “Serengeti Plains”.
The Masai Mara Game Reserve adjoins Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and is reached in time for lunch at Mara Sopa Lodge or Manyatta Camp.
At 4 pm, proceed for an evening game viewing drive in search of Black Manned Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Cheetahs, Buffalos and other plains game. The sighting of Rhino and Leopard cannot be guaranteed and luck is a necessary factor as they are sparsely numbered, very shy and elusive.
At 6:30 pm, return to Mara Sopa Lodge or Manyatta Camp for dinner and overnight.
Full day in Masai Mara
After breakfast at 0700hrs, start the game drive with your guide in this Reserve which borders Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park as only an artificial border separates the two. The Masai Mara is renowned for staging the Great Migration, recently named as the seventh wonder of the modern world.
A full day is spent game viewing across (from 0800-1600 hrs) the rich, tree studded grassland and rolling hills. This reserve is the most visited Park in Kenya and the best for game drive as it has an extensive road and track network, which allows excellent photography and close viewing opportunities. The famous Mara is renowned for its great herds of plains game, Black Manned Lions, Leopards and Cheetahs. It also has numerous Elephants and virtually every type of wildlife to be found in Kenya. Antelopes, Wildebeest, Zebras, and Masai Giraffes can be seen as well as scavengers like Hyenas and Vultures.
You’ll have a picnic lunch beside the Mara River as you watch Hippos and with luck Crocodiles on the river banks and return to the Camp at 4 pm.
After a short rest, visit a nearby Masai village to see their nomadic lifestyle. (At an extra fee payable directly to the Masai villagers – The Masai are famous for their bravery, as they have co-existed with the animals over the years.)
Rest of evening is spent at leisure with dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge/Manyatta Camp.
