Take a deep dive into the intriguing past of the country on your visit to ancient sites, including the monolithic churches of Lalibela. During this journey, you will also come across Dorze, Mursi, Hamer, Tsemay, Karo and Koso tribes.

DAY 01

Arrival in Addis Ababa

  • Upon arrival at Bole international airport, meet your Ethiopian tour guide and transfer to a hotel. 

  • After check-in, do a city tour of Addis, which includes visits to: 

    • National Museum - the home of the famous complete hominid fossil remain of Lucy dates 3.2 million years back.

    • Mount Entoto - panoramic viewpoint at the highest peak in Addis with an altitude of 3200 meters above sea level.

    • Trinity Cathedral - A beautiful church with a baroque style of European architecture unique to both Ethiopia and Africa.

    • Ethnographic Museum and Merkato (the largest open-air market in Africa) 

  • Enjoy overnight in the hotel.

DAY 02

Addis - Bahirdar

  • In the morning, transfer to the airport to board the flight to Bahirdar. 

  • After check-in at the hotel, go on a boat excursion on Lake Tana. 

  • Visit Azua-Mariam and Ura-Kidane Mihret Monasteries, which are rich in icon painting.
    In the afternoon, travel to the mighty Blue Nile fall commonly known as “Tis Isat” (water that smokes). 

  • After a short hike, return to your hotel in Bahirdar for overnight stay.

DAY 03

Bahirdar- Gondar

  • In the morning, drive to Gondar. Gondar was one of the hidden cities of the foreign trade area in the 17th century AD. It is the site of ancient castles, building, and palaces of different emperors constructed in the European middle age architectural style. 

  • After check-in, examine the curious symbiosis of Ethiopian and Portuguese architectural at: 

    • Royal Enclosure, which is also known as” the Camelot of Africa”.

    • The iconic church of Debre Birhan Selassie.

    • The Bath of King Fasilledes, which is lit up during the celebration of Ethiopian epiphany (Timket).

  • Enjoy overnight in a hotel.

DAY 04

Gondar - Simien Mountains National Park - Gondar

  • After breakfast, drive from Gondar to Simien Mountains National Park. It constitutes many summits above 4000 masl and culminates at Ras Dashen, the highest peak in Ethiopia, which is the home of the endemics gelada baboon, Ethiopian wolf and Walya ibex. 

  • Return to your hotel in Gondar for overnight stay.

DAY 05

Gondar - Axum

  • After breakfast, transfer to the airport to catch the flight to the ancient town of Axum. 

  • Perform a check-in at the hotel and then, set out to visit the archaeological and historical attractions in Axum, which include:

    • The Archaeological Museum 

    • Monolithic Steles 

    • The Tombs of King Kaleb and King Gebre Meskal

    • legendary Bath of the Queen of Sheba

    • Ruins of the ancient palace of Queen Sheba.

    • New and Old Cathedral of St Mary of Zion

    • Sanctuary that houses the original Ark of the Covenant.

    • Cathedral of St Mary of Zion 

  • Enjoy overnight at your hotel.

DAY 06

Axum- Lalibela

  • In the morning, transfer to the airport to catch the flight to Lalibela. 

  • After check-in, spend the whole day visiting the 12th century Rock-Hewn Churches., some of which are hidden in enormous caves.

  • Enjoy overnight at your hotel.

DAY 07

Lalibela's rock-hewn churches

  • After breakfast, drive to the northeast of Lalibela to visit the church of Yemrehana Krestos. The church has become famous for the decoration of its interior. The flat-span roof display panelling is richly adorned with geometrical designs. The ceiling over the sanctuary is domed and displays carvings and paintings. 

  • In the afternoon, visit the Second Group of Churches of Bete Emanuel, Bete Mercurios, Bete Abba Libanos, Bete Lehem and Bete Gabriel-Rufa’el and Bete Giorgis. 

  • Enjoy dinner and overnight in your hotel.

DAY 08

Lalibela - Addis - Hawassa

  • In the morning, transfer to the airport to board the flight back to Addis Ababa. 

  • Upon arrival, drive to Hawassa. On the way, visit Tiya Stele (one of the world heritage site registered by UNESCO) and Melka Kunture archaeological site. 

  • Then, continue your drive to Hawassa. 

  • Enjoy overnight in Haile Resort.

DAY 09

Hawassa- Arbaminch

  • After breakfast, visit the fish market of Lake Hawassa. 

  • Then, drive to Arbaminch. On the way meet the Alaba people who are known for the images they paint on the inside and outside of their huts. 

  • Enjoy overnight in Paradise Lodge.

DAY 10

Arbaminch - Jinka

  • Drive to Chencha village to visit the Dorze tribe who lives in the high land areas. They are surrounded by bamboo forests and are well known for their traditional weaving and towering huts.

  • In the afternoon, go on a boat trip on Lake Chamo (the largest lake in Ethiopian rift valley lakes) to see the Hippos. 

  • Visit the Azo (Crocodile) market. 

  • Drive to Jinka and enjoy overnight in Eco Omo Lodge or Jinka.

DAY 11

Jinka - Turmi

  • After breakfast, drive to the Mursi village through Mago national park to visit the Mursi tribe. The Mursi people speak the Nilo Saharan language and its women are famous for the clay plate they put on their lip. The Mursi men are renowned for their stick fighting (donga).

  • After the visit, drive to Turmi. En-route, make a stop at the colourful Key Afer Market (if it is Thursday) or Dimeka Market (if it is Tuesday or Saturday) where Bena, Hamer and Tsemay tribes gathered together.

  • Perform the check-in, and then set out to meet the Hamar people in their villages. Here, you may get to witness Evangadi night dancing and bull-jumping ceremony (the rite of passage to manhood for hammer and Bena tribes).

  • Enjoy overnight in Buska Lodge/Turmi Lodge.

DAY 12

Turmi - Karo - Konso - Arbaminch

  • In the early morning drive to Karicho to visit the Karo tribe. They paint their bodies and faces with white chalk to prepare for a ceremony. The chalk is mixed with yellow rock, red iron ore and charcoal give it its traditional feel. Face masks are worn at times and they have clay hair buns with feathers in them. 

  • Then, directly drive to Konso. Meet the Koso tribe and explore the landscape. The Konso people are hard-working and well known for their land management. 

  • Proceed to Arbaminch and enjoy overnight in a lodge.

DAY 13

Arbaminch - Addis - Departure

  • In the morning drive back to Addis Ababa. 

  • On the way, visit Lake Ziway, the Ethiopian Bird Spectacle. The great Pelicans are the main stars of this astonishing natural live show, which takes place at one of the freshwater Rift Valley lakes of Ethiopia. 

  • Continue to Addis. 

  • In the evening, savour a traditional farewell dinner in one of the best restaurants in Addis followed by folkloric dances of different Ethiopian cultures. 

  • Then, transfer to the airport to catch your flight back home.
