Visit the historical sites of Northern Ethiopia, registered by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites. The trip also include breathtaking sceneries of the Simien Mountains National Park.

DAY 01

Arrival at Addis Ababa

  • Be welcomed by your guide on arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, and transfer to your hotel.

  • Overnight hotel.

DAY 02

City tour of Addis Ababa

  • Have a full day city tour of Addis to visit the National Archaeological Museum of Addis Ababa (where the fossil remains of Lucy (3.25 mil years old) is kept in).

  • Visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral.

  • Go to Merkato – the largest open air market in Africa.

  • Enrich your knowledge at the Ethnological Museum.

  • Finally, drive to the Mt. Entoto (3,200 meters above sea level) to enjoy a panoramic view of the city. 

  • Overnight hotel.

DAY 03

Addis – Bahir Dar

  • With an early start, drive 565 km north to Bahir Dar crossing the scenic Blue Nile Gorge and with stops at the villages of the Amhara people.

  • Overnight hotel.

DAY 04

Bahir Dar

  • In the morning, drive 32 km south west of Bahir Dar to visit the famous Blue Nile Falls which is locally known as Tis Isat which literally means ‘Smoke of Fire’.

  • In the afternoon, you will have a remarkable boat trip on Lake Tana (3,600 sq km) to visit the island monasteries of Ura Kidane Mihret and Azwa Mariam which date back to the 14th Century AD and are decorated with paintings from the 16th century AD.

  • Overnight hotel.

DAY 05

Bahir Dar – Gondar

  • Drive 185 km north to Gondar which was the medieval capital of Ethiopia visiting the people of Amhara, and the fertile Fogera Plains.

  • In Gondar, visit the Imperial Castle Compound of Gondar (17th and 18th Century AD, and UNESCO World Heritage Site), the bath or Swimming pool of Emperor Fasiledes, and the church of Debre Birhan Sillassie (17th Century AD) which is famous for its wall and ceiling paintings of angles and scenes from the Bible.

  • Overnight hotel.

DAY 06

Gondar – Simien Mountains National Park

  • In the morning, drive 120 km north to the Simien Mountains National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site) with a stop at the village of Weleka which was where the Ethiopian Jews used to live. 

  • After lunch at the Simien Lodge, have a walking trip to visit one of the endemic mammals of Ethiopia – the Gelada Baboon, and the breathtaking sceneries of the Simien Mountains. 

  • Overnight camp or lodge.

DAY 07

Simien Mountains National Park – Gondar

  • Have more time to discover more of the park in the morning, and after lunch at Simien Lodge drive back to Gondar for overnight.

  • Overnight hotel.

DAY 08

Gondar – Lalibela

  • Drive 370 km to Lalibela – home of the famous hand carved rock churches of King Lalibela whom the town is named after.

  • On your way to Lalibela enjoy the picturesque scenery of the Wollo Mountains.

  • Overnight hotel.

DAY 09

Lalibela

  • Have a full day sightseeing tour of the churches of Lalibela (12th and 13th Century AD and UNESCO World Heritage Site) which are divided into three groups. The churches of Lalibela are Ethiopia’s top tourist site.

  • Overnight hotel.

DAY 10

Lalibela – Dessie

  • Head to Dessie crossing the magnificent Wollo Mountains and visiting the 13th Century AD monastery of Haik Stephanos.

  • Overnight hotel.

DAY 11

Dessie – Addis Ababa

  • Drive back to Addis Ababa with a stop at Gemassa Gedel to enjoy the view of the Ethiopian Part of the Great East African Rift Valley.

  • In the evening before departure be a guest at one of the traditional restaurants in Addis Ababa where you can taste the various delicious meals of Ethiopia and see the different dances of the Ethiopian people at the same time.
