Explore Northern Ethiopia and visit its incredible heritage sites, especially the rock-cut churches, as you ride a boat in Tana Lake, witness the amazing Blue Nile Falls and hike through the breathtaking Simien Mountains. 

DAY 01

Welcome to Addis Ababa

  • Your Ethiopian tour guide will meet you at the Bole international airport and transfer to a selected hotel for check-in.

  • Proceed for a tour of the city and visit the Ethnographic Museum, a great introduction to Ethiopian culture and history

  • Shop at Merkato, one of Africa's largest outdoor markets, and then head to Trinity Cathedral, resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie.

  • Have lunch at a good tourist restaurant in the city

  • Stay overnight in a hotel.

DAY 02

bahir dar ( lake tana )

  • Take the early morning flight to BahirDar.

  • After checking-in at a hotel, embark on a boat ride of Lake Tana to visit some of its most beautiful churches. It takes about an hour by boat to reach the Zeghe Peninsula and visit its churches. and during the way, you might spot monkeys and beautiful birds.

  • Then, hop on the boat to reach the other side of the Peninsula the boat to reach Kibran Gabriel Monastery (unfortunately women are not allowed.)

  • Before heading back to Bahir Dar, take the boat to see the source of the Blue Nile where you might catch glimpses of hippos among the amazing wildlife.

  • After some rest, go the Bezawit Hill to witness an amazing sunset.

  • Stay overnight in a hotel.

DAY 03

  • In the morning, start the journey to the Blue Nile Falls which is about 80km from the city.,

  • Reach the waterfall and hear the thunderous sound as the water crashes from a 45-metre high cliff. From the village of Tis Abay, a splendid series of viewpoints can be reached along a 1.5km footpath across the 17th century Alata Bridge. Birder watchers should check the riverine forest here for endemics and near-endemics species such as Blue-breasted Bee-eater, White-Cheeked turaco, Black-Winged lovebird and Yellow-fronted parrot.

  • Return to Bahir Dar and shop at the local markets.

  • Stay overnight at a hotel.

DAY 04


  • After breakfast, start the journey to Gondar. Dubbed the Camelot of Africa, the city of Gondar combines a modern veneer with an architectural sensibility harking back to the middle ages.

  • After lunch, take some time to relax.

  • Then head out to explore the city and go for a stroll at the Royal Enclosure of Fasil, remains of a fortress-city which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  • Next, inspect the amazing artwork of the Debre Birhan Selassie Church. 

  • Take some time to relax in the peaceful surroundings of Fasiladas' Bath. 

  • Hunt for souvenirs in the Falasha village which is famous for its clay handicraft.

  • Stay overnight in a hotel.

DAY 05

Sankaber Hike

  • Depart early morning from Gondar to Debark. 

  • In Debark, visit with the park office to join up with a scout and guide.

  • Then drive into the park to arrive at Sankaber. Here, you can either drive into Sankaber or have the car drop you off near Buyit Ras for a short hike. If you choose the hike, you will be greeted by an amazing landscape and endless mountain ridges.

  • Arrive in Sankaber to collect your supplies. Sankaber will be the first campsite of your trip.

DAY 06

Sankaber to Geech Camp:

  • From Sankaber, begin your hike along the ridge and descend into the valley and be able to view the Jinbar River plunging down the Geech Abyss. 

  • After some time at the waterfall, continue to Geech village to reach your campsite.

DAY 07

Geech - Ambaras hike

  • Take on the nearly 7-hour hike that offers the most breathtaking view in the Simien Mountains.

  • Reach the Imet Gogo peak, at an altitude of 3,926m. Here, take a break for lunch.

  • Then hike the rest of the way to Ambaras where you will be met by a car to bring you back to Debark/Gondar.

DAY 08

lalibela Rock churches

  • After breakfast, board the flight to Lalibela.

  • After arriving in Lalibela, have lunch and take some rest.

  • Visit the 11 Rock-hewn Churches of Lalibela.

  • Stay overnight in a hotel.

DAY 09

  • Start with an early morning service then head out to explore the south-eastern cluster of churches of the Rock-Hewn Churches. 

  • Finally, visit the most well-preserved church of this site, Bet Giyorgis.

  • Stay overnight in a hotel.

DAY 10

  • After breakfast, head to the Second Lalibela in the Gashena village. In this village, you will find rock-cut churches just like at the archaeological site in Lalibela. These churches are built in modern times but It is claimed that no modern tools were used to carve these monoliths. 

  • Stay overnight in Lalibela.

DAY 11


  • Explore the oldest city in Ethiopia, Aksum. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church was founded here in the 4th century and it remains the holiest city of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. 

  • Survey the archaeological site of Aksum.

  • Tour the ancient stelae fields that stand for nearly 2,000 years and the impressive Archeological Museum among other tombs and archaeological.

  • Stay overnight in a hotel.

DAY 12

Drive to the Gheralta lodge

  • Drive to visit the 2,500-year-old ruins of Yeha, Aba Gerima, Petros and Paulos churches, and Tigray rock churches.

  • Stay overnight in a hotel.

DAY 13


  • Transfer back to Addis Ababa airport or a pre-requisite location.
