8 Days Culture tour itinerary for ecuador: Explore The Natural Wonders Of Ecuador
Cotopaxi National Park, Quito, Cayambe, Otavalo
Immerse yourself in the surrounding wilderness of the Andes and hike along the avenues of the volcanoes and volcanic lakes. Cuycocha Lake, Limpiopungo Lake, Rucu Pichincha & Guagua Pichincha volcanoes are some of the places that you will see.
Pick-up from the airport and transfer to the Hotel Sierra Madre.
Explore the capital of Ecuador in the Old Town.
Visit the plazas de la Independencia, Santo Domingo and San Francisco. See the pre-Colombian art and Inca culture, which provides a good introduction to the history of Ecuador.
Proceed to the interesting colonial churches and one of the traditional central markets to end up over the hill (el Panecillo) from where you can see the whole Quito.
Drive to North and then to West until you reach the mitad del Mundo.
Stay overnight in Hotel Sierra Madre. (B/BL)
Move from Quito at 08:00 am to visit and hike till Cuycocha Lake.
Drive North on the pan American route for 2 hours until we reach Otavalo.
Continue the drive for 45 minutes until we reach the entrance gate of the Reserve CuyCocha.
Begin the hike at 11:00 am.
Return to the starting point after hiking.
Drive back to Otavalo city for an overnight stay at Hotel Acoma. (B/BL)
Visit the Market in the morning and shop for 2 hours.
Proceed to Tambopaxi into the Cotopaxi National Park.
Stop at the Cayambe city at a cafe.
Drive to the next hotel for 2.5 hours until we reach the Cotopaxi National Park gate to go into the Tamboapxi hostel.
Stay overnight at Tambopaxi. (B/BL)
Have a healthy breakfast and drive to the famous Cotopaxi car Park.
Make a stop at the Lake Limpiopungo at 3,837 m altitude.
Walk along the lake and enjoy the scenery. Get a beautiful view of the glaciated Cotopaxi.
Drive to reach 4,550 m from where we hike to the refuges.
Reach Jose Rivas hut at 4,800 m altitude. It is the basic refuge for the climbers from all over the world who come to ascent the summit of Cotopaxi volcano.
Have a hot cup of tea and descend.
Reach the guest house Chuquirahua in the farming village of Chugchilan (3,100 m) for some tasty dinner and overnight stay. (B/BL/D)
Hike down Quilatoa for 30 minutes and hike up for 1.5 hours. Hike around of the crater for 5-6 hours.
Have breakfast and visit the crater lake of Quilotoa. From mama Hilda, drive to reach the Quilotoa Andean villages, to go into the rim at 3,900 m.
Enjoy a beautiful panoramic view from here. The lagoon here is 600 m deep with turquoise green colour.
Hike down until the side of the water and we can see the gas of the volcano. You can do kayaking here.
Hike up or rent a mule to reach the top of the rim. (USD 10)
Drive back to Quito Hotel Sierra Madre. (B/BL)
Hike up to Ruco Pichincha. (3-4 hours)
Leave from Quito at 8.00 am after breakfast and travel to the Teleferique in Quito to make an initial height gain.
Ascend to the 4,796 m peak of the ancient volcano of Rucu Pichincha. From the top, you can see the Guagua Pichincha active volcano.
Enjoy the many photographic opportunities.
Hike down to the cable car. (2 hours)
Arrive at the Hotel Sierra Madre around 4-5 pm. (B/BL)
Transfer to the airport.
