- This excursion will take you first to the mountains of ‘Kioni’, a vibrant scene that displays the minute life of an enduring Cypriot tradition in the numerous villages within its vicinity. Begin with the women’s monastery of Saint Thecla, near the village of Mosfilioti and the mountains of Stavrovouni. The iconography of the monastery dates back to the XVIII century, with most being the masterpieces of the famous iconographer Filareta. Today, the monastery is the destination for both locals and guests from around the world looking for body and spirit healing.
- Next, visit the village of Lefkara, famous for its hand-made lace and silver. It has been declared as one of the most beautiful towns in Europe by Japanese Tourist Organisations. Here at this village of exquisite beauty, we will be able to witness first-hand the unique method of knitting lace and the handiwork behind the making of the silverware, the method having been carried through generation to generation. The artists sell their work locally in the various shops in the village, and you will be able to purchase the art pieces during our stop.
- The next stop will be the monastery of Panagia Machaira. The icon of the Virgin Mary is known all over Cyprus for its many miracles. The Virgin Mary of Machaira is also well known for the healing of traumas.
- Following this stop, visit a small village with only three inhabitants responsible for upkeeping their ancestors' heritage. Get to know the life of past generations even closer, especially their tastes and food, for it is here that you will have lunch at a traditional taverna.
- The excursion will end with a tour of the last divided capital in Europe, Nicosia. See the Venetian Walls, the old town of Ledra, the Cyprus Museum with its archaeological finds and much much more. This last part of the excursion does require quite a bit of walking as car access is limited in the old town of Nicosia.
