Description

Walk around Nicosia- the capital city of Cyprus, divided by Greek-Cyprus border. Visit three Gates built during the Lusignans' reign when the city was surrounded by walls. See the Kyrenia Gate, Venetian Column, St.Sophia Cathedral, Ermu Street and many other attractions of the largest city in Cyprus.

    • The tour will start from South Nicosia.

    • Walk from the Municipality to Omerge Mosque and Hamam, and see Archbishop Makarios Palace too.

    • Continue walking to Famagusta Gate.

    • See Tahtakale, Ermu Street and Fenoromeni Church.

    • Drink Cypriot coffee and stretch your legs at one of the street-side local coffee shops.

    • Cross the border to the North from Ledra Street checkpoint.

    • Visit Arasta, St. Sophia Cathedral, Bedesten and Buyuk Han.

    • Have a local lunch in the magnificent Caravanserai of Bayuk Han.

    • Drive to Kyrenia Gate by car and pass by Venetian Column.

    • Park the car at Arabahmet Area and see the old Ottoman Houses. Paphos Gate can be seen from here as well.

    • Walk back to the checkpoint and see the Armenian Church on the way. 

    • The tour will end back in South Nicosia.

    We have a special tour in October 2015. Sirin is our travel guide. She led us to visit Famagusta, Salamis, Kyrenia and Nicosia. I am very grateful to her for seriously explaining, let us know the history of Northern Cyprus and visited many beautiful places. I saw her enthusiasm for culture and sense of justice. The smile is always on her face. So I told her the event of "An Era of Conscience". After she understands this event which is beneficial to the world, she is also willing to respond. She is a very patient and very nice person. I hope I can meet her again when I visit Northern Cyprus next time.

    I was very fortunate to have been given an introduction to Sirin who  I thank you very much for making my time in North Cyprus interesting and for showing me much of the country including the Karpas Peninsular over two days when I was there in May 2014. Next time I will climb all the way to Buffavento Castle but start in the morning and take a picnic lunch!. The mountains along the north are wonderful with the castles perched on peaks and blending in with the mountain terrain. I enjoyed all thatI saw. The donkeys add interest and a bit of fun. I showed my grandchildren a photo of the small sand castle I built for them on Turtle Beach; almost 8yr old James did not give the mark of approval until he had questioned me on the quality of the sand!. I spent Saturday after-noon in north Nicosia; should have gone over earlier as I missed a couple of museums but was happy with what I had time to see. The buildings of and around the Selima Mosque are wonderful.  In Atthe Buyuik Han I was able to find the linen material used for the Lefkaraembroidery/lace so bought a length. Interesting how north and south Nicosia differ. The more historical and interesting buildings are probably in the northexcept for St John’s Cathedral with is incredible inside.. I stayed inin south Nicosia  and crossed over into the north without any hassel. Sirin was waiting for me on the two days I had engaged her as my guide. Should I visit north Cyprus againg, I hope Sirin is available for guiding .

    North Cyprus has some beautiful scenary as well as interesting antiquities..
