7 Hours Nature tour itinerary for Varadero & Matanzas: Holiday Near The Caribbean & Dive At The Bay Of Pigs
Enjoy this trip with a visit to a crocodile farm, a drive past sugarcane fields and mango groves and views of the beautiful Caribbean Sea. See a lot of Cuban flora and fauna, snorkel or scuba dive at the Bay of Pigs area and enjoy cool dip in cenotes - large open water pools.
BAY OF pIGS
The drive from Varadero to the south of Cuba takes around 2 hours. This is a chance to see some of Cuba’s backwoods. We will drive through the cities of Cardenas and Jovellanos and a few other villages and we will see sugar cane fields, banana, citrus and mango groves. We will visit a miniature farm with animals and plants typically found in the Cuban countryside and a small museum of old locomotives in a village called Australia. We will also see a Crocodile farm.
Next to the crocodile farm, there’s a wharf from which tourists will be taken on motorboats to an islet with sculptures of Cuban Taino natives in the middle of a lake. This is called “the Taino village”. The boat ride costs about 12 cuc per person. We can take you to that wharf if you are interested.
Then it's time for lunch break.
There’s a private house in the village of Palpite with a backyard where hummingbirds fly freely. We may pay them a visit if you wish.
View the gorgeous Caribbean Sea. When cold weather hits Varadero, the sea in the southern coast of Cuba remains calm and warm. The Bay of Pigs area has very clear water and nice corals as well. I have a few diving masks and snorkels that you can use for free. Renting a mask and swim fins costs about 5 cuc per hour. Bring a piece of bread to feed the fish in the sea and see them swarm around you. Scuba-diving can also be tried out here. It is about 25 or 35 cuc per 40 minutes. Scuba-diving is done here at a spot where there are no sea currents or any other hardships, you will be taken to a maximum depth of 30 meters, and they will even take you to a sunken ship if you are a good diver. You will also find Cenotes here. Cenotes are large open water pools with very clear water. There are a few cenotes in this region. Bay of Pigs is an important historical place where a seaborne force of Cuban exiles landed in 1962 in an attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro’s government.
