Forbidden City & Temple of Heaven
Get picked up by your Beijing guide and driver from your hotel about 8:30 am (or any time you want).
Visit the Forbidden City, situated exactly the heart of the municipality and home to 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the ancient time, the emperor claimed to be the son of heaven and therefore their supreme power was conferred upon them from heaven. Their residence on the earth was built as a replica of the Purple Palace where God lived in heaven. It has 9000-room maze of courtyards, palaces, and ceremonial halls, where 24 emperors used to live. Forbidden City was indeed a forbidden place, where commoners were kept out for nearly 500 years in the past.
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
Then go to the Temple of Heaven, built-in 1420 A.D., specifically for the worship of heaven and prayers for good harvests during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The park surrounding it is much bigger than the Forbidden City and smaller than the Summer Palace with an area of about 2700000 square meters.
The Great Wall of China & Summer Palace
Receive a pick-up by your Beijing guide and driver from your hotel about 8:30 am (or any time you want), and first, go to the Great Wall.
Drive 1.5 hours to the Great Wall. The Great Wall of China is world-famous and a compressive work of construction often referred to as the 'Eighth Wonder of the World'. It is one of the remarkable feats of mankind, whose segments were built as long ago as 500 BCE. Archaeologists estimate that the wall once ran 6200 miles; today it is still impressive at 3750 miles. Serious work began in 220 BCE when China's first emperor QinShihuang conscripted millions of soldiers and peasants to participate in this dangerous undertaking. Constructions continued over the centuries, with the most impressive portions built during the 14th century Ming Dynasty.
Break for lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit the Summer Palace, which is the best-kept and largest existing royal garden in Beijing. Just as its name shows, the royal family spent their summers here. With a concentration of the best of ancient buildings as well as styles of gardening, the Summer Palace is a virtual museum of traditional Chinese gardening design in the world, integrating the natural landscape of hills and open water with manmade features such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples and bridges into a harmonious and aesthetically exception whole.
