Juan coped very well with having less time due to the delay getting off the ship.

Juan met us at the ship dock in February 2018. He spent most of the day with us touring the Puerto Montt area. Juan was on time, professional, considerate and imparted his love of his country to us. I would highly recommend him.

A friend and I spent four mesmerizingly beautiful days with Juan Sunkel Cerro in Chile’s Lake District in and around Puerto Montt. Our traveles included the full extent of both the east and west sides of Lake Llanquihue, all the way from the snow line of Mt. Orsono to the orderly German-influenced Fruillar. We also spent two days on Chiloe, Chile’s largest Island, taking in a Penguin rookery, salmon farms, and the ruins of Spanish Forts. Of course, everywhere you turned were the quaint fishing villages with ocean-view eateries.

Juan has the qualities of an outstanding guide. He is good natured, flexible, punctual, and knowledge of local history, regional flora and fauna, geology, and geography. Of particular interest to us, Juan shared his intimate knowledge of the social-political-cultural mix that makes up Chile.

Chile’s Lake District is perfect for those who love costal environments that are not overdeveloped with glitzy resorts and garish billboards. Fog often greets you in the morning, but usually burns off by 11 am. We always kept a raincoat and an extra layer of fleece handy. Take every chance you get to eat fresh sea food. I especially enjoyed the Congrio, a firm white fish with cod-like taste.

During our 5 weeks trip to South America we booked lots of private tours and we met many different guides. They all were nice but the day we spent in Puerto Montt with Juan was very special to us. He knew all the nice and secret places and had the perfect timimg to get us there before the crowds from the cruise ships arrived. It was just like spending a day with an old friend. And talking to him in German almost felt like home... Whenever you have the chance to book a tour with Juan, do it!!!

Selecting Juan was one of the highlights of our two week trip through southern South America. Juan is very friendly, speaks English well, and is well versed on the area. He was waiting for us as we got to shore and had a new van which was very comfortable. We could not have been happier. The cost of this tour was only a bit more than had we both taken the ships group bus tours which were not as much fun as being with Juan. I happen to be a bird watcher and he was helping us spot birds and would patient as we got out to look. Don't hesitate to use Juan on your trip to Puerto Montt!

To Whom It May Concern: This note describes the outstanding job that Juan did while we ere in Chile as part of the “Peaks and Fjords” cruise that we took. We met him when we docked in Puerto Montt. His personal attention ensured that our expectations were 100% fulfilled. He was cheerful and talking to him was easy. He knew the Puerto Montt area well and took us to places that other tour guides missed.

Juan was excellent in every way. He is intelligent, articulate, easy-going, and flexible. He accommodated all our requests and gave us a delightful all-day tour. His new minivan is comfortable.

Fantastic trip and tour guided by our now very good friend Juan Sunkel. He was always on time and highly informative and made all of my family feel very relaxed. My wife and I have a 2 year old boy who travelled with us and I have to say Juan was very good ( and patient) with him , his singing and music in the car! We thouroughly enjoyed ourselves as Juan knows the region extensively and took us to the best spots. Highly recommended! We will be back soon Juan! Abrazo!

Perfectly on time (in the harbour) with a brand-new touring car, very friendly, caring and informative in german and english, Juan Sunkel provied us with an excellent private tour of Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, Lake Llanquihue, Orsono Vulcano and its beautiful surroundings. Always explaining our questions and stopping at request at any scenic place (lake, lama's, vulcano, river, plants, flowers, etc.) Juan allowed us magnificent nature videographing always with a silenced car engine. Juan Sunkel should not be missed as a guide when visiting beautifull Puerto Montt in Chile with a videocamera.

We were very pleased with Juan. He is an attentive and caring person. The tour arranged by him was quite extensive and touched on all the highlights including getting us up to the chairlift which one can use to get to the top of the Osorno volcano. He had just purchased a new KIA, an SUV model, which ran smoothly and was very comfortable for us. Ours was a private tour which included a trip to Petrohue River and to Puerto Varas, the City of Roses. We were well looked after, including an introduction to a restaurant with German ancestry but also serving Chilean food. That was our request. He brought us back to the pier, on time and after a very eventful day having introduced us to the delights of Chile. Juan speaks English well and is also fluent in German. He has extensive knowledge of the area and was an excellent guide. We would without hesitation recommend him.

We booked THREE consecutive tours with Juan Sunkel late June 2014. We were three single women on a long weekend out of Santiago, interested in seeing the Lake Llanquihue region. Juan picked us up at Puerto Montt airport having waiting for our two hour flight delay. We spent the afternoon and early evening at Ensenada, Petrohue Falls and (ski season’s opening day) Volcano Osorno. Second day was a 10 hour visit to the island of Chiloe. Please include time to visit this island and it's penguins, birds, sealife! Third day we traveled along the western shore of the lake to the towns of Llanquihue and Frutillar. You’d think you were in southern Germany! Drop off back at the airport. Juan’s English, German, and driving skills are excellent. His services are the perfect choice for cruisers and independent travelers.

Mr. Sunkel gave us an excellent excursion on 6 December 2011 (we think better than a group excursion of the cruise-ship). It is no problem for him to explain everything in English and German. He know very much about the surrounding and gave us a great service. The excursion began in Puerto Montt and the first stop was the Petrohué waterfalls. He drove past the touristic point because several busses parked there. It was too busy. A minute later he showed us another beautiful point to see the Petrohué waterfalls. It seems a privat place. There were no other touristic people and we had a brilliant view. After that he parked his new car at a place with a beautiful view of the Osorno volcano. Along the Llanquihue lake he drove to the city of roses called Puerto Varas. We had a nice stop in the centre for a short lunch. He recommended a delicious Chilean regional dish. Maybe we will return to this part of Chile in the future and then we hope to see him again for another excursion. Pieter, Irene and Martijn Domburg, The Netherlands

In November 2012 I had a few days free from meetings in Santiago. I had never seen penguins in the wild. The nearest seemed to be on Chiloe. I was advised to contact Juan Sunkel. It was the best travel advice I have ever been given. Juan met me in Puerto Montt and over two short days was much more than a guide. He drove me, filled me with the Chile's history, found restaurants with great food and views and became an essential part of my life. And the penguins? We saw them, an exceptonal experience, reached the base camp of the Osorno Volcano in a snow storm and drove around lakes in the grey drizzle of early spring. Juan shone throughout all of this; what a travelling companion, guide and friend.

Everything was perfect. The guide was very knowledgeable and the tour itself was super nice and well planned.

On December 2013 we returned from Chile. We choose Touring Chile for once in a life time experience. Our guide was Mr. Juan Sunkel - simply the best. He was able to plan each day in a well organized pace without skipping on any details. His knowledge and passion of each attraction left us wanting to learn more about this country’s rich culture and traditions. We were able to see and experience much more than any of our friends that have traveled on their own or in a large group. It was the most moving and memorable experience we had. We would highly recommend using for anyone, considering visiting Chile. We were more than happy that we had organized Juan, as we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him ,and the knowledge he shared with us. Juan went out of his way to make sure that we got to see what we wanted. On the first day we did Lake LLanquihue circuit & Osorno Volcano, in the evening, we went with him to a very good restaurant he recommended. The following day we travel to Chiloe Island & Penguin Colony - a long day but, we thoroughly enjoyed it very much. On the last day Juan took us to Puerto Montt city tour- wonderful authentic fish market "Angelmo"- we ate the "seviche" salad, and then he drove us to the Airport. Yes, we could have done this all on our own but, we are pleased we shared these days with him. He has a happy personality, very reliable person, speaks very good English and it is a pleasure to be around. We wish him all the best for his future, and hope he could come to visit us. On our recent cruise, we booked a day tour in advance with Juan. He responded very promptly to all our enquires and, before our cruise, sent us photographs of the area. He was waiting for us when we alighted the tender. We had already arranged what we wanted to see and this included the Orsono Volcano. We enjoyed his excellent tour very much. Juan has a very good command of English and was very knowledgeable about the area. He returned us to the ship in plenty of time. There were problems with tenders the morning of our trip because there were three ships in port that day. I would advise anyone booking this trip to get off the ship as early as possible. When we visited the National Park to see the Falls, it was so crowded it was difficult to move. Although we did see the volcano, which is a spectacular sight, we did not have time to go up it, just in case there was a problem getting back. Gillian & Robert Thompson St Albans, UK
